Toni
I just looked again at newspaper report I put on earlier about Tenet in USA 1890
"The youngest son bears name of Plater Buckland probably after his remote ancestor [Plato Buckland] of whom the song relates"
Tenet not only had a brother called Plato b 1839 married Eliza Small that I know, many of the children in family were named Plato
Also when they went to USA the ones who stayed there called by this name changed it to Clayton
Now going by this I think yes I have to agree Plato in Marlow must be a relation because I know fletchers are related to Buckland's too
So could it be that Plato in Marlow is maybe a Uncle or distant cousin
I have this too which would confirm about Edward ( Ned ) Buckland who the experts say was a relation of Tenet & plato my family :
EDWARD BUCKLAND & DIANA SMITH
The family may have descended from an Edward Buckland, married to a Diana Smith; he was buried in the grounds of workhouse in 1845 aged 90 (born 1755) at Chinnor Oxfordshire
He had a daughter Tehanna & son Isaac, possibly more children, they traveled about Oxon, Oxfordshire and could have as many as 30 descendants attached to them.
Tehanna ( Tianne or Tianna)is a name that has been passed down through my own family, the last person to be given the name was my own father's eldest sister. This leads me to believe there has to be a connection somewhere as it was common practice by Gypsies to use the same names through family.
I was sent this: by a very good friend who has a site called ROMANYGENES
ISAAC BUCKLAND at Hawridge Bucks on Oct 24th 1831
"The procession to church being headed by four men playing violins and four girls beating Tambourines: and the witnesses to the wedding were Stephen and Mable Fletcher and Katherine Hearn, whose name possibly recurs in the entry "Hy. Illegitimate son of” Cathe Hearn, baptized at Marsh Ealdon in 1811.Isaac is no doubt
The Isaac Buckland son of Edward and Dianna Buckland, who was baptized at Gorsington? Oxon, and this couple had many other children baptized here and there in Oxfordshire, but curiously they were never described as gypsies or travelers, and are once or twice put down as labourer's .The presence of the Fletcher's at the wedding suggests, that Tehanna daughter of old (Ned) Edward Buckland, some of whose family settled at High Wwycombe who married John Fletcher at Nether Winchendon, was identical with Isaac oldest sister Dianna, baptized at Aston? Rowant? in 1785.though on that occasion again they behaved in a more gypsy way than one would have expected, as the wedding breakfast was held in an adjacent lane and was served up on solid silver plate and rare old china ,the father being "head of a tribe of gypsies" If this Ned ( Edward )is identical
With an Edward Buckland buried at Chinnor in 1845 aged 90, which is doubtful, Isaac would have been a nephew of Doctor Buckland, who married Solomon Hearn's sister Mary, but unfortunately Isaac died 3 years after his marriage at Great Rolllright, In Chiltern Oxfordshire and no memory of him seems to survive in the neighborhood
In 1822 I found this: confirms above statement of marriage:
At lower Winchendon Buckinghamshire by Rev T Hayton , John Fletcher was wed to Teannah Buckland daughter of Edward Buckland, head of a tribe of Gypsies, who have long frequented this part of Buckinghamshire
After the ceremony the party retired to a lane adjoining the village where they part took of an excellent dinner served partly on solid plate & part china.
The novelty of such a Banquet attracted a great number of respectable spectators.
ABRAHAM BAREDON BUCKLAND
Abraham Baredon Buckland born towards end of 18th century married Eleanor Smith she was daughter of Jonas & Constant Smith baptized in 1796 at Seend
Children were Dimiti & Mary, Prudence, I think this is a son or has been suggested a brother of Edward & Diana Buckland, which again makes me think that Tenant & Plato could well be his descendants or even grandchildren.
In my researching many people have sent me snippets they have found and it’s like a puzzle putting the pieces together, hopefully it will one day give me a clearer picture of my Family.
