ARIES ARIS from Kidlington
« on: Monday 18 February 08 17:46 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out about the ARIES family from Kidlington.
I have worked out that John ARIES was born about 1793 as his death
certificate states he died in 1843 in Kidlington aged 50 years.
He is described as a Blacksmith and a Publican
His wife Elizabeth (nee HINTON) died aged 91years in 1884.  Elizabeth opened
and ran The Britannia Inn in Thrupp until she died aged about 91.

I wonder if John ARIES publican is related to Thomas ARIS who is recorded in
the Assizes as being a publican in Kidlington in 1755.

I would be grateful to anyone who knows anything about the Britannia Inn in
Thrupp or the ARIES , ARIS families.

Suz

Thank you for your welcome and of course the information. I'll need to check the parish registers to see if there are any other Aris or Aries at the same time.  If not this looks like a good bet that this is the family.  Fantastic.

Thanks again

Hello Trevtherev

The John Aris you describe is the brother of my greatgrandmother(x4) Amy Aris(Aries). Edward was his grandfather. I am doing research on my Mother's Line (Batts). Amy marrird Joseph Batts a Boatman from Kidlington who live near the Pub John ran with his wife. There is an interesting Newspaper article involving the Batts and Aris family in the Oxford Journal in the 1840's.

Kind regards
Roybern

Thanks for your reply.  Is the article about the drowning of the 2 boys when Mrs Aries failed to help?  If so do you know who Emma Batts was the daughter of the constable who gave evidence?
