Klochbolley ? Brosna
« on: Monday 18 February 08 07:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I recently obtained a marriage cert for an ancestor from 1864. In it the groom is listed as TIMOTHY CASEY Roylane(I think this should be Rylane) and the bride is MARY CAHILL from Klochbolley.

I`ve tried googling various versions of what Klochbolley might be but to no avail. Also tried the excellent seanruadh(sp?) townlands directory site but no joy there either.

Since Timothy and Mary married in Brosna church and according to family lore, Mary lived in the Brosna area I do believe that the mysterious Klochbolley is/was in the Brosna area.

Thanks for reading this,

Limgal

Hello Limgal.Rylane the civil Parish is Duagh Barony Clanmaurice.

Your Klochbolly must be a misprint. It could have been Knockboule.
There are no Townlands or civil Parish's that have ever started with Kl:
I doubt that today you will find Knockboule. But it was Brosna.

Thanks for that Leprechaun,

I`d thought perhaps that the Kloch part should have been spelt Cloch as there are placenames starting like that, although no sign of one close enough to my Klochbolley.

Looks like Knockboule is a strong possibility. I see it`s mentioned in the Casey Collection too so maybe if I root around there for a bit I may get more information.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks, Tom

For that additional information.

The marriage cert I got from GRO was a transcription of the original record. I think it costs less for a photocopy of the original and I would be in a better position to figure out what the place name was meant to be if I`d ordered the photocopy instead.

Oh well, the learning curve is steep in this family history business!
