Re: Thomas Milner Cardwell
Born Doncaster 1897  Vol 9c p802 to Milner and Violet Annie Cardwell.

An article in the Doncaster Gazette for 27/9/1918 reads as
"private Thomas M Cardwell, 67 Cemetery Road, Doncaster, was recently reported to be prisoner in Germany."

I would like to know if he was a POW and where, the only other information I have is that in 1901 he was living at 24 Millgate Bentley Doncaster.

There is a database for British POWs 1914-1918 here: http://www.1914-1918.net/POW/search.php but there don't seem to be any Cardwells - it might be worth getting imaginative with the spelling!  It seems to be a fairly recent database, so may not be 100% complete - perhaps someone on the Armed Forces board would be able to help?

Thanks Rambler
I had already had a look at that website and I too could not find him.  He obviously survived the war,and maybe the newspapers were wrong.  I will keep searching, you never know.
Thanks for your interest and help.

Hello. Not sure if you're still around on here but came across this post and my maternal great great great grandfather was Tom Cardwell (1836-1905?) who married Emma Chadburn and was grandfather I'm pretty sure to this Thomas Milner Cardwell. I don't have any extra information on him, but if you are related then we are related :)

LOVE the photo, thanks for sharing! Eager for absolutely any more you might have. My cousin is the one who has done the real research. I'm just starting. I've given her your email. She has quite a tree on ancestry.co.uk. Will be in touch soon. Thanks cousin!

Glad you got the email before Rootschat removed it.  I have some very interesting stuff regarding 2 Cardwells who were killed in 1918 in France and also some newspaper articles regarding various 'criminal' offences, alhtough some of them would not even be reported these days.  Please email me you contact details if you will.

Happy Christmas, may be New Year before I'll have time to sort much out for you.

The photo I have added is of 'an unknown Clayton' can you help with an identification?

Regards

Chris
