Incidentally, in case it ties in anywhere. My parents did do some research in Exeter and seem to have visited a Sellers Cottage and for some reason acquired a copy of Samuel Anning Sellers will. I put a post on Exeter Memories website.

So far I have only been able to trace the Exeter Sellers. I am certain that they are descended from John  Sellers of Broadclyst and Rebecca Davills of Crediton.

In 1859 a  John Alexander Sellers married an Emma Sophia Lendon. She might tie in somewhere for someone else? The family is in the census for 1851 and 1861 but by 1877 the John Sellers branch had left Exeter. Here is the link as it has some of the dates in.

I also chat a bit to the Demolition Exeter website owner.

Hi Jackalyn,

Thank you for your posts. I am afraid that at the moment I am not able to spend much time on the family history stuff as I am preparing to go to my son's wedding in Vietnam! However, your Exeter link makes very interesting reading, but coachworks do not ring any bells!

The fact that there are familiar names such John Alexander (my father) and Ida (my great Aunt). Ida was a Tremeer, who married into the Sellers family - to Walter Paris Sellers, makes me think that there is possibly a link, but I don't know what!!!

Hopefully I will have more time to investigate further on my return, but if you find out anything further in the meantime............. ;)

Sue

Hi,
Hope the wedding goes well. I have Walter William Cuthbert but he is born in Exeter to John Alexander and Elizabeth Cuthbertson. Of more interest to those who are looking at Colyton I found some notes my mum made on my parents trip to Exeter. Some of them actually contradict what is in ancestry searches but seeing as they are both still compos mentis and were younger then and actually saw the graves I would go with my parents record rather than possible input mistakes by subscribers to bmd indexes. Unfortunately this was a fair few years ago and my mum used pencil for the notes so they are very faint.

I have a few Colyton Sellers that might be of interest.

Geoffrey Sellers and Ann Bussell 1776
John and Mary Rochall ?Rockhall 1774
Geoffry Sellers and Sarah Skinner either 1767 or 78

No idea why she thought this, but my mum has a note that my James and his brother Thomas 'may have gone to Brixham.'

I also have an 'extract of will' that says John Seller to be buried in the church of Colyton 1573

James Sellers transported for life on the Ganymede in  ? for stealing a purse containiing 13 gold sovereigns in 1834. http://www.sellers-sellars-sollars-zellars.net/england.htm

1723 Oath Rolls at 'The Golden Lion, Colyton,'-John Seller marked S which I think refers to the prayer book rebellion and whatever it was they had to sign to say they followed the common prayer book - http://www.foda.org.uk/oaths/QS17/2/2/17b.htm
