Beresford Birth and Death

I am looking for Abraham Beresford
Born between June - Sept Huthwaite notts1871
I have him living in Sampsons Yard Huthwaite with grandparents
Samuel Coleman and Mary nee Greaves both in the 1881 and 1891 census
He then married Eliza Swinscoe in Mansfiels  1892
By the 1901 census Eliza had 6 children was head of the house and Abraham has disappeared from the scene
My problems are
Who were his parents and where did he go or when did he die

Hi Boothby,

Just a guess, but if his grandparents were Coleman then it's a fair bet his mother was too (although not certain!).

Notts marriage index has a marriage of Jabez Herbert Beresford and Sarah Ann Coleman at Sutton in Ashfield 23 July 1871. I'm afraid I can't see a baptism for Abraham though so the only sure way is to buy that birth certificate.

Was Eliza listed as widowed or married in 1901? Just wondering if he could have fought in the Boer war?

Following Jabez through the censuses ...and in 1901 he is back in Sutton in Ashfield, boarding with Abrahams brother Samuel. Hope this helps!

Thanks for that Heather B I have managed to trace Jabez back through to Isaac Beresford born abt 1734. Found that Jabez  had 3 wives! Sarah Ann, Emily May and Lemody. This was why I could not pin him down.
If anyone can tell me where Jabez 's son Abraham Beresford went to after 1901 when he disappeared from the family radar I should be most grateful

I have details of Lemoday and would be interested to find out more about what happened after as she is married but no sign of him in 1911.

Jabez died  age 67 14 Sept 1916                                                      Mansfield District vol b 95

Lemody died age 88 in 1951                                                       Hitchin Hertfordshire vol 4b 149

I haven't yet found either of them on the 1911 so any more info would be welcome

I have found Jabez with son Zenas in Sutton in Ashfield 1911. He is 62 and describes himself as widower.

On the 1911 census, Lemody Beresford is at 25 King St. Sutton in Ashfield with 2 of her children from her previous marriage to David Binkley and with a daughter, Sarah Ann from her marriage to Jabez. His description of himself on the 1911 census as a widower is therefore incorrect. Perhaps they were just living apart.
This daughter married a John Sidney Johnson in Hitchin, Herts in Q3 1932, though she is now listed as Ann Sarah. That is presumably why Lemody died in Hitchin, but as yet I cannot determine who followed who from Sutton  to Hitchin, and why.
