I'm assuming that he has travelled directly from Tasmania to Hobart and would like to find shipping details

Hi Hev,

Hokitika wasn't founded until 1864, so I'd go with the 18 months!
My GG grandmother also settled in Hokitika in 1866 having lived in Tasmania for a few years. She came via Christchurch (a daughter was born there) but I haven't been able to find her on a shipping list either. Mind you - she married a Jones!  Have you looked at the list of passengers leaving Tasmania? There is a link to it on the Australian board.

He could also have travelled via Victoria to NZ. I see you are in Christchurch too.
The library here has passengers from Victoria to NZ on microfiche, so that's another possibility.

Have you had a look at Papers Past? If you do an "exact phrase" search for Andrew Turnbull Anderson (great that he has that middle name  there are some interesting hits including one from the Otago Witness 14 July 1883 involving Andrew and his Stephenson in-laws.

Yes, I did find the articles..........talk about skeletons in the closet !!!
Papers Past is a fantastic site - I have come across some very valuable information.
I am very thankful that he used his middle name, otherwise it would be near impossible to track him
