Do you or can you visit Plaitford Parish Church?- COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Saturday 16 February 08 22:11 GMT (UK) »
I am told on this fantastic site that there is a tablet inside Plaitford Parish Church dedicated to James & Margaret Anne Cocks. I would be very grateful if someone could kindly either give me the detail from the tablet or maybe put me in-touch with someone who can. Maybe I could write to the vicar?

Hi there

Have you had a look on this web site

http://www.hants.gov.uk/hampshiretreasures/vol09/page084.html

It does not exactly answer your question, but it is the Hampshire County Council web site and does have a 'contact us' section, so they should be able to help you.

It does mention what you are looking for.

The Shoe. Built on the site of the turn-pike, the last keeper J. Cocks, died in 1862, a tablet in Plaitford Church is dedicated to the memory of Mr. Cocks and his wife. The Shoe was also formerly a posting station for the mail coach.

Good luck
Heather

Thanks Heather, Valda kindly gave me that information yesterday from a query I had on the Hampshire board. I was hoping to find a Rootschatter who is likely to visit the church or who knows the address of the vicar maybe. I doubt that the council would be keen to send a man out, but I might try it as a last resort. Perhaps I'll say the road is flooded outside the church & by the way while your there!!
   Thanks again

Hi

I know this is a very late reply but I have just joined the site to respond to this post :)

I passed this Church last night and was fascinated as I didn't know it was there (I've lived nearby for about 15 years!)

I can try and go back and look for the info, if you are still looking.

The Shoe pub is a frequent haunt of mine too  ;)

Thank you JMnewbie for your reply. It is very kind of you to offer to help, but I actually took a few days holiday & visited the church myself a few years ago. It is very remiss of me not to have marked this query 'completed', but you might find yourself, if you start on this family tree lark, that you end up with so many queries on various sites, you don't know where you have left queries!!
I hope you get enjoyment out of the site now that you have joined, I can assure you that not only does it restore your faith in human nature when people help you out, but also it is a great feeling to be able to help others when they have a query in your own parish.
We visited 'The Shoe' & had a drink too, hope to get back down one day, but holidays are a  rare event here!
Cheers,
Kay
