Elizabeth Ann Bell-Ashcroft-McGurk

Searching for descendants of an Elizabeth Ann Bell born, I guess Newcastle Upon Tyne c1888.

She married an ? Ashcroft and believe had daughters Kate and Adeline b. c1910-15?? Think they were Ashcroft not McGurk.

Elizabeth then married a Francis McGurk in 1918, having twin boys, Clive and Kenneth in 1922.

Around 1927, Francis took the boys to live in Devon, I believe Elizabeth and the girls stayed living in Newcastle Upon Tyne. That was the last contact for the family.


Elizabeths father was an Isaac Bell.

Last address I have was in 1922, 22 Rabbitt Bank Road Gateshead.

Kenneth McGurk was my Granddad. Just trying to put the puzzle together.... He had five McGurk girls.

John Ashcroft married my Elizabeth Ann Bell Jun 1911.

daughter, Catherine (Kate) Ashcroft b. Mar 1912, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
daughter, Adeline M Ashcroft b. Mar 1916, Auckland Co Durham.

These two were my Grandads step sisters.

Aaron Ashcroft married Elizabeth Ann BELL (previous marriage Todd) 1903 (according to his Military records.

The Western Morning News and Gazette. Tuesday 12 June 1934

Tragedy at Axminster.  Clive William McGurk 11 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis McGurk of 3 Castle Street, Axminster.
Paraphrasing went swimming with his twin brother Kenneth at Cloackham Bridge bathing Pool.
Clive drowned, inquest to be held, neither boy could swim.

The Western Times 22 June 1934 Funeral held at the Catholic Church for Clive McGurk.
Parents both listed as well as his brother Kenneth plus cousins.

So both parents were in Devon up until 1934.

Wife's name not mentioned so possibly not Elizabeth.

New Castle Evening Chronicle 22 July 1939

July 21st aged 23 Adeline Mary nee Ashcroft, beloved wife of John James Johnson. Interment at Walker next Tuesday.
