Uxbridge/Hayes/ Southall papers 1940 COMPLETED
« on: Friday 15 February 08 18:06 GMT (UK) »
I have a cert dated 1940 where a man seems to have had some sort of accident with a train, the cause states " caused by being lacerated by a train" there was an inquest held 02/10/1940 and I am awaiting information about it.

What papers would be around in that area at that time, I am sure there would have been a write up about it, he wasn't killed but died as a result of the accident,   it does not state where the accident took place but he died in St Bernard's emergency hospital Norwood, Southall 29/09/1940

regards

Hello. L M ,

Jeremy Gibson's book Local Newpapers only goes as far as 1920 so is not of much use.

I think the best bet is to get in touch with the local Main libraries, if anyone knows which newpapers were around circa 1940 they would & they may even have archive copies on film.

Good luck.

Thank you Meliora
I have searched on line for local papers and to see if there was a report of an accident involving a train, even the transport archives haven't got anything written about it, but  these archives do say that not all accidents involving people will be listed
I would like to solve this mystery for my friend, it is a very intersting life this man has led so as you can imagine I am getting very absorbed in it myself, never one to miss the opportunity to help solve an interesting problem

Hi,
What you need to look at is the Middlesex County Times for that period: the St. Bernard's Emergency Hospital must have stood on what is now Ealing Hospital along the Uxbridge Road, in Southall.
Hope you find what you're looking for.

I have also written to the hospital, hopefully I will get some information that way, I am sure there must be a write up some where,  the death cert states he was laccerated by a train so I would have assumed something would be written up about it in a local paper, I haven't found out yet as to how he was laccerated, he wasn't an emplyee at a station.
Thank you for your rely
