On his marriage record he is a Plasterers Labourer. Had he left the family to go and live in America? If so who would arrange for his ashes to be sent home?

He didn't leave the family as such as in divorce or anything, I believe his brother Anthony lived there although the only record I have of Anthony is that he was a witness to Peter & Marys wedding in 1900 in Motherwell. Once again I stumbled with so many common names looking for Anthony I cannot decipher who is the correct one. His wife apparently arranged for the ashes to be sent "home" to Scotland. Good one, now you have me thinking down another avenue. (I suppose that's good for the brain).

Why didn't I think of doing that >:( >:( >:( O.K. I'm off to Scotlands People to look into that one. I just rang my mother to find out if she knew who Anthony married but she only met him the once and he had a son with him. So I can also look into that because if I have the sons name I may be better able to search the Ellis Island records. She believes Peter went over to New York perhaps Queens to work with Anthony who had a Used Car business. Oh it just gets better a booky & a used car salesman. Thank you SOOOOO much for your help a fresh outlook may just be what I need.

If you get any info on what cemetery Mary Farrell is in let me know. I live quite near Airbles and not too far from St Patricks

Anthony may have called his first son after his father Patrick

Firstly, a big thank you sancti ;D ;D I will certainly keep you in mind with the cemetary search. (I do hope you don't change your mind).
That marriage of Anthony to Sarah Powell is him. I also got one of their childrens birth certificates. I then went to the Ellis Island thingy. I have Sarah, three of her children & her sister arriving in New York 5th August 1912. Anthony was already there at 726 10th Avenue, New York. I could find no ship records of Anthony going over and the ship manifests also stated that Sarah & her sister had been to New York before but again no other records.

Hi Drop Bear,

I have one thought for you on finding records for America. Did you try searching for a crossing through Canada. It was alot easier ( as in you didn't need alot of documentation ).

Also, I am researching the Farrell line. I have a Peter Farrell b. circa 1830 d. 1886. He married a Mary McPoland b. circa 1846 d. 1924.

On the 1901 Scotland Census , Mary McPoland Farrell was living on 174 Brandon St, Motherwell

Occupants in the house were :

Patrick Farrell b. Ireland age 20 - listed as other relative
Teresa Catherine b. Ireland age 21 , daughter
Francis Joseph b. Glasgow age 19 , son
Willie Charles b. Glasgow age 16 , son
Anthony Farrell b. Ireland age 22 , listed as other relative

I assume Anthony and Patrick are nieces and nephews . Could these be your Anthony and Patrick ?

Just to drop into the Farrells, I don't suppose either of you have a Michael Farrell (b. approx 1842 Ireland) with wife Albertine , children include Walter (b. Glasgow), Alexander and Ada (born just before the 1891 census in Brighton) in your tree anywhere?  They seemed to shuttle between Scotland, Ireland and England for their childrens births but I lose them after the 1891.  I've asked about them on the US board but they didn't seem to go there.
