Hi, I know it has been quite a while since this was posted but still wanted to try and respond.  I am trying to get some information for a friend who is tracing their Powell relatives. I know that James  Powell and Mary Ann Murphy married in Armagh, had Catherine, Mary Ann, Susan, Teresa and Ellen in Armagh.  Then took the family to Motherwell, where they had Francis (my friend's line), Bridget, James and Annie.   I believe all but Ellen immigrated to New York.  Ellen married Patrick Farrell and Sara Powell married Anthony Farrell.  I have found information out for some of the Powells that went to the US, but very little about the ones that stayed in Motherwell.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cathy

Thanks for your help.  I know a bit about Anthony and Sarah Farrell, but very little about Patrick and Ellen Farrell.  Sarah Powell had a son Patrick Powell (1903) he is listed as illegitimate.  She married Anthony and they have Mary (1907), John James (1908), and Anthony (1909-1971).  Anthony Farrell does very well for himself. He owns a home in New York that for the time period was very expensive.  At least of of his brother in laws worked for him.  When Sarah comes to the US with the children Patrick Powell is not with them.  But he shows up living with the family by the 1920 census, using the name Patrick Farrell.  I know that Anthony dies in New York in 1971, but can't find the other ones yet. On Anthony Farrell's draft registration paper work he lists being from County Mayo.  Thanks again for your help.
Take care,
Cathy

Hi Cathy and Welcome,

I am a wee bit confused as to who and what you require help on, I am guessing you are looking into Powells. I have not followed the line of James and Mary Ann as they are not directly related to me. I do however have information on Sarah and Ellen as they married into my Farrells.

You say Patrick turns up on the 1920 census "living with the family". What family do you refer to ?
If you mean Anthony and Sarah, that is incorrect, Anthony and Sarah are listed in 1920 in West 53rd Street, Manhattan, New York with Mary, John and Anthony (their children). There is a Patrick & Ellen in the 1920 census but if it is the one I think it is, it is not them. Patrick Farrell (brother of Anthony) was supposed to leave for New York on the S.S. President Harding in November 1926 with his brother Peter (my Great Grandfather) but didn't. Patrick died in Motherwell in 1955 and the death that sancti kindly provided is Ellen Powell who died in 1963.

From your first post Patrick and Ellen stayed in Motherwell, that is correct and Anthony and Sarah went to the USA, and Sarah and Ellen's sister Bridget went as well. So as far as any of them staying in Motherwell, I only have information on Ellen.

Kind regards,
Liz

Cathy, I had a quick look and Francis went to New York and listed Sarah as who he was going to.
He arrived in New York 22nd Dec 1922 on board the "Saturina" with what appears to be his two boys, James aged 4 and John aged 2.
