Liz,

Like Megan I haven't been able to establish a link with Patrick or Anthony Farrell yet. The Mary Farrell that they are listed with on the 1901 census was my GGrandmother, My Father is William Farrell's son and still lives in motherwell.

My line of thinking is that Patrick Farrell (Anthony / Patrick & Peters Father) may have been a brother of Peter farrell my GGrandfather.

Hi Liz  and Gerry ,

I have found a few Farrel records in Ireland . I am going to post them , maybe they will help . 2 of the relatives are from Gerrys and my Farrell line . Brothers of our Peter Farrell .  See posts below .

 * Patrick Farrell born/baptized  on 28 Oct 1838 in Annaghlone , Co. Down

parents - Patrick Farrell and Ann Devlin
sponsors - Felix Cull and Mary Devlin

 * Terence Augustine Farrell born/baptized  on 28 Aug 1842 in Annaghlone , Co. Down .

parents - Patrick Farrell and Ann Devlin
sponsors - Patrick Devlin and Rose Farrell

Now here are the ones that may be relatives but nothing definate yet.

 * Patrick Farrell born/baptized  on 4 Mar 1835 in Kilbroney , Co. Down

parents - Peter Farrell and Nancy Whyte
sponsors - Mark Farrell and Sarah Sloan

  * Peter Farrell  born/baptized  on 19 Sep 1835 in Annaghlone , Co. Down

parents - Roger Farrell and Rose Byrne (s)
   sponsors -  not listed

*  Peter Farrell born/baptized  on 5 Dec 1839 in Kilbroney , Co. Down

parents - Peter Farrell and Nancy Whyte
sponsors - William Farrell and Margaret Sloan

The Rev. is listed as P . McEvoy

Now this one I can't figure out . The names match our family but the wife name is different . For it to match my family the wife should be Ann Devlin . ZBut on this record Ann Devlin is listed as the sponsor , not the mother of the child.
See below -

* Patrick Farrell born/baptized  on 29 Jun 1837 in Dromore , Co' Down
Patrick is listed as being from Ballooley .

Parents - Patrick Farrell and Rose Anne Farrell

Sponsors- Patrick Diamond and Ann Devlin

This is all I have so far. Hope this helps a little bit .

Hi All,

I have been following your thread and amazed at the progress and the three of you sharing a good deal of "common" research. However, I notice that there is a loggerhead re Patrick Farrell, can I remind you that sometimes Peter and Patrick were interchangeable.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/034e/

It is just that the last few posts seem to be getting lots of Peter's and Patrick's, good luck with your research.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your interest and tips in our search. The Peter's and Patrick Farrell's we refer to are no mix up of names we have documented evidence of them all, But your right there are a vast amount of them.
Megan is the No1 researcher in this line, the information she has uncovered is amazing.
My advantage is that i'm still living in the area where they  lived / died so i can pop along to graveyards etc. If it wasnt for this research I would never have known I had so many living relations in the USA, You can imagine how exiting it was to get a phone call out of the blue from Megan. Now our biggest mystery is to find out where Dropbears Peter & Patrick connects to our Peter Farrell and we will have linked in 3 continents around the world.
Keep reading to see how we get on, And any other tips are greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I was so excited to discover this thread - It has cleared up a few questions for me.  This is my first post on RootsChat.

I am also descended from Peter Farrell.  He was my GGGrandfather.  I am descended from his marriage to his third wife, Hannah McCormick.  Their daughter Mary Agnes married Hugh McGovern, and they had a son, Peter Frederick, who was my grandfather on my mother's side.

If you have any information on this line of the family, I would love to hear it.  I will be back in Scotland in July, and will hopefully be able to follow up more while I am there.

I will appreciate any information you can give!

Mary ,

Yes we have a connection , and I will also contact Gerry , he lives in Scotland , so you two might be able to meet up in July .

Peter Farrell married Hannah McCormick at St. Andrews Chapel , Great Clyde St. , Clyde , Glasgow on 2 Jan 1871 .

Peter and Hannah had 2 children - Mary Agnes and Catherine Teresa .

Mary Agnes b. 14 Jan 1874

Catherine Teresa b. 5 Jan 1877 , dies   1 Jun 1877 , age 4 mths

Hannah McCormick Farrell died   14 Mar 1878 , and is buried at Dalbeth Cemetery , with Peter and the other 2 of his wives , and the child Catherine Teresa . Yes , Peter buried himself with 3 of his wives !!

On the 1881 Census , Mary Agnes is listed with Mary McPoland Farrell ( Peters 4 wife, and mine and Gerry's line ) .

Mary Agnes married Hugh McGovern at United Presbyterian on 18 Dec 1891 .

They have 2 children -

Hugh Francis - b. 19 Jan 1896

Hannah - b. 18 Oct 1897  , she marries Peter Keating on 6 Jun 1924 .

Hannah McGovern Keating died in 1985 .

Mary Agnes Farrell was the maid of honor at her half sister's wedding . Her Half sister was Annie Farrell , she was Peter child from his 2 marriage to Martha Kelly . It seems they all were very close and in and out of each others lives .
All of Peter's wives died very early in life and left children to be raised , as a matter of fact , one of the lines her in America , thought they were descended from Hannah McCormick , when we found out that Annie was not Hannahs child , but child of Martha Kelly . The  decendants never knew because Annie had been very close with Hannah , and spoke like she was her mother.

I'm sure this all might be somewhat confusing , but Gerry and I have done a good job of figuring it out . We think we have found all of Peters chidren , we hope at least .!!!

Peter Farrell   died 14 Aug 1886 . His  parents were Patrick Farrell and Ann Devlin .

Ann Devlin Farrell remarried after Patrick Farrell died to a Luke Flood on 10 Oct 1852 .

Anne died - 25 Nov 1861 in Motherwell , death certificate signed by Peter .

Anne is also buried at Old Dalbeth Cemetery , (same cemetery as her son , Peter ) .

I'm sure Gerry will be on this site soon to add more info .

Wow Megan - that is great information! Thanks a lot :D

Peter Farrell seems to have been quite the man...

The only thing I can add to your information, is that Hugh McGovern and Mary Agnes Farrell actually had three children - My grandfather Peter Frederick was born January 27th,  1910.  He was still quite young when both his parents died, so I am trying to find out who raised him.  I am thinking probably his sister Hannah.

You didn't come across any information about Hugh McGovern in your research, did you?

I will certainly visit Dalbeth when I am home in the summer.  We have quite a few family members buried there.

Thanks again,
Anne

Hi Mary ,

Hugh McGovern died  3 Apr 1920 . At the time of his death he was living at the Victoria Infirmary . His usual residence was -  135 Nelson St. Glasgow .
He died at age 49 yrs. of Bronchitus/Labor Pneumonia . The death registry was signed by his son , Hugh McGovern .

At the time of Hugh and Mary Agnes' marriage , Hughs parents were deceased . Their names were -

Hugh McGovern - pipe fitter
Catherine Tweedle                  both deceased on marriage cert . in 1891 .

On the marriage cert . Hugh and  Mary Agnes list the same address . 77 Port St. < Glasgow . That is the address that Peter and Hannah lived . And then Mary McPoland .

That is all I have on Hugh , I will pm you my contact info and Gerrys.
