Dyer - Lost Death, Burial & Certificate?

Hi there

My G G Gran was Sarah Dyer (nee Smale) born Crediton and lived all her life there and according to a elderly cousin died and was buried there.  So why can I not find her death certificate in the indexes or her record of burial in the registers?   
I know where she lived from a cousin which I confirmed using the electorol registers in which she is mentioned up to 1918.  The cousin thought she had died around the time of the Great War.  In the Indexes there are two *'s where a Sarah Dyer could fit in but there are no notes added to the bottom of the GRO Indexes and the record office have been unable to locate a death cetificate for her either.
I've searched the burials registers several times to no avail either.
She was born 1841 in Crediton and I have her in each census up to the 1901.

Has anyone got any bright ideas/suggestions that I could follow up in order to locate her death?  Surely there must be a death certificate somewhere?

Just wondering if you have limited your search to the one area or covered other areas as well?  Just in case she died in a hospital or went to live with relatives if she was ill or elderly.............

Hiya,

Maybe there was a church service in Crediton but she was buried somewhere else like a municipal cemetery or even taken to  a crematorium.There is one in Eeter which isnt far from Crediton.

I've only serched in Crediton because that's where she was always of, and my elderly cousin remembered her living with her son in Crediton until she died although he would only of been 6/7 in 1918 so could be mistaken.
I could try the crematorium in Exeter, was that sort of thing in use around 1918?
