Coventry Apprentice Enrollment lookup please
« on: Monday 11 February 08 14:23 GMT (UK) »
I would be grateful for a look-up on Charles Gibbs. He  was born in Coventry in 1827. I'm not sure when apprentices were taken on in those days but I suppose the year to search would probably be about 1841 when he was 14 or so. Later censuses show him to have been a coachmaker for which I think an apprenticeship would have been required.

Thanks
Leofric

Hi Leofric

There is  only one Charles Gibbs on the disc, his indenture and enrolment  is dated 9/5/1865 as coachbuilder.  Father Johnathan, abode Coventry, His master was his father Johnathan Gibbs.

There was also a Harry Gibbs indenture and enrolment 4/11/1871 as coachbuilder with johnathan as father and master.

There was also  a james gibbs (master) coachbuilder.

Julie,

Thanks for that info. It can't be the same chap - although I had noticed on the censuses other Gibbs whose occupation was coachbuilding, and even living in the same street as 'my' Charles!

regards
Leofric
