Hi there,

I'm trying to find out who that parents of William STREET, b 1813, Homington, Wiltshire were.

As far as I've been able to find, from the 1841 Census, he was living with a Mary STREET (listed as 'indigent'), b 1764, Wiltshire.  I've surmised that she MAY have been his mother, but haven't been able to find any other records of him (1813 is too early for FreeBMD...), and there is nothing that I can see on IGI...

Any help would be most appreciated!

Regards,

Patricia

Hi Patricia

I think the 1841 census may say "independt" - I think the ennumerator would have put "pauper" rather than "indigent"

Hi Patricia

Have you tried the Nimrod Index for Wilts baptisms? I've just checked & it includes Homington. You'll have to pay a fee, but I've always found them very helpful if you want a wider search

Hi Steve,

I think it may come down to Nimrod, I looked at them the other day - will look for other resources if I can as well...  Also trying to get hold of Homington records through the LDS resource centre, which has just been moved so is (unfortunately) in some disarray at the moment!  But they should be up & running again in the next couple of months, so I'll just have to be patient!

Thanks for the input!

Regards,

Patricia

Hi,
I have just seen your post about the Street family of Homington.  I am related to James Street, son of Thomas and Mary Street, and have been looking at this family for a few years.

I have just found a few more references to them from local papers:

“ Wilts Lent Assizes “ .. There were prisoners for trial.  The first bill returned against James Croivter, who pleaded guilty to stealing a pair of boots, and a small quantity of bread and bacon, the property of Thomas Street, at Homingon.  He was sentenced to two …”  28 March 1867, Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette.

“Diocese of Salisbury  “  On Tuesday last, as a labouring man, of the name of Jacob Street, of Homington, was returning home from this city, on arriving the bottom of Harnham hill, he fell down and instantly expired.”  28 Oct 1833, Salisbury and Winchester Journal.

Accident at Homington – On Thursday, a young man named Street, in the employ of Mr Flower, fell from a cart in which he was riding.  He was taken up insensible, and was conveyed to the Salisbury Infirmary where every attention was paid to his case.” 28 May 1869, Western Gazette.

Have you made much progress with the family?
Regard,
Madwith
