Thanks Dave for posting the link & Happy Birthdays to the most recent birthday Rootschatters.

I was born 1 Sep 1939 ( I can't lie anymore) in the newly built Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital.  My Mum told me a lot about that day.  The war was brewing and the newspaper and the wireless (as we called it) provided the only source of news.  Mum was woken in the morning after giving birth by the wail of sirens going off.  She knew immediately what was going on although Brisbane was 10 hours ahead of GMT.  Her temperature shot up.  She had a husband & brothers, cousins all of age to go to war.  She became a bit delerious and when her DR came to check on her, she had a premonition that her Dr would be killed, which sadly happened.

She didn't mention very much about me at all. ;D  So I have had to share my birthday all my life with Hitler.  >:( Gazania

Battle of Trafalgar.  Aberfan disaster.

I was 13 the day of the Aberfan disaster and I remember coming home from school all excited to find my mum in tears, she had heard it on the radio andshe kept saying those poor little children.

Elizabeth, I know what you mean but at least we are left with the memories and as the hurt of losing a loved one becomes bearable the memories seem stronger providing a little comfort.
