Apparently the St. Neots workhouse was at Eaton Socon, Bedfordshire

Who were you looking for?

Hi Mrsben

You might find this site helpful (it has photographs and a plan):

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?StNeots/StNeots.shtml

As  Barbara says the new workhouse is in Eaton Socon.  From the above web site I guess that it lies on the north-east side of the junction between the Great North Road and St Neots road.

All the best

Hi Gobbo, yes that's the same website as Linda gave earlier, it's a very good site

but I'm still trying to find the actual workhouse in the 1871 census, normally it would be listed in the enumeration districts  :-\

Hi Barbara

I notice from the web site, which gives the 1881 census, that  Eaton socon is in Bedfordshire so Mrsben was right when talking about the St Neots workhouse in Beds.

Yes, she is right, but the older one was in St Neots I believe!

Yes Barbara, there was a small workhouse in St Neots before the 'new' one was built in 1841/2.  The new one concentrated the inmates from a number of small workhouses in and around St Neots.
