Remember this from way back in the beginning?
My mum has been waiting for another source to confirm that this is the 'correct' family.  And it is.   . 

The Ridgways from this generation seem to have kept in touch a fair bit...so mum & I are now going to look at Samuel's siblings and where they ended up.  I'm going to look for William and Elizabeth's deaths first.

Also, from the previous posts.  I think I can now say for Certain that it is Flora's death.  I've checked census records for all the Flora Parsons and I've even been able to satisfy my mum (despite the ages not matching 100% all the time).  I will order the death cert when the Rossiter's ones arrive.  Still looking for Charlotte Parsons' death and George Parsons.  Have narrowed it down to two possibles each.

For those people still following:

If you've read the comments on my blog, you'll know that Sarah Pring's great-granddaughter has contacted me, in addition to Lily Gready's grandson (yes, Deb was right again.)

I've sent them both emails and I'm almost jumping out of my skin to talk to them.  If they send me a phone number I'm going to call trans-continental to England. 

I'm really hoping they will have some clues as to what 'happened' to some of the family, and they still live around West Monkton, so maybe they even know what 'happened' to George Parsons or Ellen Ridgway.

Hopefully, you will get all the info you have waited for, for so long. BTW... have you heard from the lady (your aunt) , to whom you sent all the documentation?

I haven't heard from my aunt to date.  I have decided to ring her this weekend just to find out whether she got the letter I sent.  However, I won't post the outcome of it on my blog until Tuesday, as it is a long weekend in Australia and my family is going away.

I am also getting up at 5am tomorrow morning to talk to my long-lost cousins in England.  I might get time to post about that one before we go away - but I doubt it.

Right now I'm writing out a list of questions to ask them...I hope I don't come on too strong for them

We are so involved in your family that it feels like we are living vicariously through you!

 We are all so happy for you. Just the fact that you can say "that you need to call your AUNT" makes this a super duper thread. When you started you had no idea of where this would lead you ! You had only just found out about this 'other family'.  You had been lead to believe that you knew everyone and everything about your life!

You were impatient , as we all are, to receive the birth cert .... now you have aunts and cousins ...how absolutely fabulous and wonderful!!!

I commend you and admire your willingness to go out on a limb (so to speak) and delve into something that was going to stay hidden forever!

Hello  there All

well  now  I  received a  copy  today  of  the Divorce records for OLIVER RIDGEWAY AND ELLEN RIDGEWAY

Now the gist of  it. dated 21/12/1914
Oliver Ridgway lived at Fegan Street West Wallsend NSW
and  the corespondent William J J Reader at 116 Upper Fort Street sydney.

1. Oliver Ridgeway the petitioner  married to Ellen Parsons on  the 25th December 1907 at West Monckton near Taunton Somersetshire England

2.  children  at  the time of the divorce Olive four years and eleven months  and  Evelyn three years and eleven months

3. I am a native of Hobart Tasmania living in NSW

4.  I beleive that  the respondent is a native of Bathpool Taunton Somersetshire England

the next bit deals  with the adultery which I  will  leave out for the moment

Oliver also asked for the permanent custody of both children


Now  when  I  received the divorce records today  the transcriber's attached  letter said  it was the smallest divorce file I  have come across usually  they are much bigger and have lots of more interesting items.

So now what does everyon  think  is it  the Right Oliver Ridgway  and wife?

One  would  have  to think  it just  might be.  (Hooray)

you are a legend!!! 

I feel so ashamed that I dragged my feet on ordering the divorce records myself now.   

This is definitely the right Oliver and Ellen.  West Monkton is quite a small place and I have a copy of Ellen and Oliver's marriage registration to confirm the details. 

These records also confirm that Olive was Evelyn's sister (who died at 28 in Taunton of pneumonia, and is buried 'on the mount' in West Monkton).

Can't wait to hear the juicy adultery details (my family is better than a Mills & Boon ) and a PM is coming your way soon.

Just an aside, in the past couple of days I have talked to my great aunt in NZ and cousins in West Monkton.  My grandmother's adoption was a surprise to them, but none of them are upset and some even seem a little excited about it.  I will write a few posts in my blog over the next couple of days once i have sorted through the huge backlog of email and work I need to do, since i went away for the Queen's birthday long weekend.
