Arthur/Pease
« on: Monday 04 February 08 16:13 GMT (UK) »
We are trying to locate cousins in the US.

Husband's gt.gt.uncle William Arthur and his 1st wife Nan (nee Rose) emigrated to USA in 1907.  Initially to East Pittsburgh where William was to work for Westinghouse.  Then on to work in a consultancy capacity to The Yale & Towne Mfg. company, Stamford, Connecticut.

Their only daughter, Lezlie, was born on 29th November 1908. The family had a house in New Haven, called Windy Fell.

Lezlie went on to marry James Oliver Pease and they had 2 daughters, Olivia and Deborah.

Olivia had two daughters (that we know of) (*) and (*)(*) as born on 12 September 1963.

We know that Lezlie died in Saint Lucie, Florida 19th January 1994.

My husband is the gt.gt. grandson of William's elder brother, Thomas William Arthur, and we now have contact with the relations of another one of his brothers, George Arthur.  These are Australians.

The daughter-in-law, married to one of the sons of Thomas' 3rd marriage, is still living in Australia and, through her and my husband's 1st cousin (also living in Australia) we have already found such a wealth of information!

This includes a copy of William Arthur's book "Fore and Aft"

Hopefully, the name of Olivia's eldest daughter - (*)- will be unusual enough for us to be able to trace.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Oh, and William remarried after the sad death of Nan.  I believe his 2nd wife was Katrine Perkins.

This looks to be Lezlie and mentions daughter Deborah:
www.scotlandbytheyard.com/scotlandbytheyard-aboutus.htm
Website gives history of business, mentions Deborah's husband & daughter, etc. You might want to try contacting them through this site.

Wow!!  That's amazing.  Lezlie's mother, Nan Rose, came from a huge Scottish clan and I know Lezlie & family visited the area.

I'm going to try to contact Hope....

Thank you so very much.  It's little pieces of the jigsaw coming to gether to build into, hopefully, a wonderful picture.!!

Both our Oz cousin, who has been researching the family for several years, and myself have e-mailed the "scotlandbytheyard" and Hope.

We know that the Lezlie and Deborah connected with the Scotland shop are the right ones.  And we hope, because of the very unusual name, that Hope is also the right one - plus the abundance and colour of hair on the picture suggests a link!!

I will let you know if we receive any replies and thanks again!!  This site is invaluable with its wealth of expertise and support

Hello!

I am also related to William Arthur of 'Fore and Aft' fame! Captain John Arthur (William's father) was my 3x great grandfather. My connection is through William's oldest sister Sarah 'Sally' Currington who married Harry Mote Currington. Their daughter Florence Currington married Alexander Dukes, the parents of my Nan Joan Miller nee Dukes. Nan researched her ancestors quite extensively and I'd love to know if you had any luck tracing the Pease line. I'd also love to hear from you Glenys if you'd like to exchange info! Warmest regards, Layla

I'd like to exchange info, Layla.

I can send you my details on Ancestry.co.uk and Genes Reunited.  I also have quite a lot of e-mails and some pictures.  I haven't been onto the Arthur tree for quite a while but will be re-visiting it tomorrow, I think!

I'm not sure if I've done a typo on the 'Pease' as there is an anomaly about the change to the family name.  Somewhere, way back, it was Peake

Glenys

Is it possible to send me your e-mail address and I will forward what I have directly to you?
