GIBBONS family

Albert Gibbons was born in Somerset England c1857 according to his marriage certificate in 1904 here in Australia.
He lists his parents as Thomas Gibbons and Charlotte Millard.
We can only find a Charlotte Gibbons in Shepton Mallett between 1861 and 1891 with her sons.
She is Unmarried.
Can someone out there help us clear up this mystery?

On the same page are as follows:

Charlotte Millard widow 27 b Pilton
William J 6 b Shepton Mallett
Mary A 4 b Doulting?
John Andrew boarder 35


Charlotte Gibbons 36 unmarried
Henry 12
Albert 9
Herbert 5
John 3
All b Shepton Mallett

The 1861 entry for Albert has him as 5 months old which links to this birth entry

Volume: 5c  Page: 553

A copy of his birth cert may tell you his fathers name but no guarantees.  It will definitely tell you if his mothers maiden name was Millard

The information on the marriage certificate of Albert Gibbons is false. The most likely explanation is that Charlotte Gibbons had 5 illegitimate sons by John Millard. When John Millard's first wife died (childless) John started courting another lady whom he married subsequently. Before the second marriage there is a report in the Shepton Mallet Journal of Charlotte Gibbons attacking John Millard for not supporting his children.

More than likely that Charlotte's children were illegitimate:-

The others are probably the same.
