St Paul's Dublin
« on: Wednesday 30 January 08 21:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi

My 17th Lancers Army ancestor Thomas Roberts married at St Pauls, Dublin in 1848. As the marriage was non Catholic, it was registered. Thomas was a widower of the Royal Barracks. The 17th Lancers had been in Dublin since around late 1846 and was just wondering where I can access their baptism, marriage and burial records please to see if there are any Roberts there? I live in England, so it would be a trek if I had to come to Dublin itself.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben

As you have the year of marriage, and at least one surname, it should be possible to apply for the cert from the GRO in Ireland directly.  www.groireland.ie is their website.

Hi Jaylay

Sorry I should have made my initial post a bit clearer. I already have the certificate from July 1848 and it says that Thomas was a widower though. He was 35, and I was just wondering where I could access St Paul's burial registers for before that date to see if there are any female Roberts burials as I am trying to find out who his first wife was. It was quite traditional for men to quickly remarry after they became a widower.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben

The following link (hope it works)  says that parish records are available for St pauls from the late 1600s (lucky you if that's that case  ;D).  Perhaps a phone call to the RCB Library in Dublin, where they keep the Church of Ireland records, might yield a result, or at the very least they may tell you where else they hold the microfilms?
