Hi Frances,
I have just joined rootschat re. Moses & his descendants.  Moses is my 4th greatgrandfather on my fathers side.  I would be very grateful to have a copy of the image you have posted of Moses & Jane. Would you be willing to email me a copy ? I am more than happy to share what I have with you and anyone else who would treasure them as I do.  I have a few oldies that have been handed down via my grandmother Stella Rolfe.  Some I can identify some I am not sure about.  Do you think I might find out who the mystery ancestors are if I posted them here?
Lynette

Hello  Merrin,
I would dearly love to see your collection of old family photographs! I live in Byron, do you live close by in the Tweed? do you have a tree on ancestry.com? I do, would you like to view the family tree as it looks so far?  if so I need your email to give you access.  I have mostly been researching mums ancestors, only now have I branched out into my dads ancestry.  Stella Rolfe married Patrick Sullivan in Casino 1925,
3 CHILDREN:
1. Desmond SULLIVAN B.Casino 1929 M. Jeanette DURAND 1955 Windsor _BOTH LIVING (my parents)
2. Iris SULLIVAN B. Casino 1928 D. Goondiwindi QLD 1990 M. Stan COOK
3. Kath SULLIVAN B Casino 1926 D. Coffs Harbour 2007 M.Marrickville 1957 Trevor MURPHY
When Aunty Kath died a bundle of old photograph came to me for safe keeping.  I would like to find out as much as possible about where they came from, how they lived and loved, and gather all the family images that are scattered everywhere into a collection for all to enjoy and treasure.
The old photographs and a few family stories my dad, his sister Kath and his mum Stella have told me, are the foundation of my research so far, I have a long way to go!

Aunty Kath & Nan are no longer around, they where the keepers of their family history, wish I could talk with them now.  The Sullivans still have descendants living in Casino Lismore area, we keep in touch, they have been most helpful and provided more photos and some memories of the Rolfe family, in particular Stan Rolfe, being Stella's brother, he had 'for the time' a high tech dairy farm close by the Sullivans Stratheden property. The Inverelle chapter is a mystery to me, the Rolfe_Hutton_Whitby_Goodfellow connections are calling me!

Do you know anything about the Huttons of Walcha? 1902 Tingha NSW Joseph George Rolfe married Annie Hutton (I have photos of her).  My dad has fond memories of Annie, however I know little about where she came from. I believe Mary Ann Owens was her mother & her father Joseph Hutton.

I have a Photo of a group of women 'War Chest Workers' Fern Hill/hall Inverell; it is unusual, the women all have what appears to be an eight point star symbol around their necks , dressed in long what appears to be white dresses, old fashioned hats, two of the woman are in long dark dresses noteable people have been marked with x and names on the back, I believe it is possible at least three generations of the woman in my family may appear in this picture:
Amy Rolfe (my Grandmother Stella's  sister)
Mrs Rolfe - Annie( Hutton) - Amys mother, (my great grandmother)
Mrs Whitby, - perhaps this is Ellen (Goodfellow) Moses daughter ?
Hilda Whitby - a Hilda Whitby was born in Inverell 1902 f) John m) Harriet. E. ?

I also have a photo of Annie Hutton dressed in high rank womens regalia, oddfellows/masonic??? apron with tassels, letters PG MU, 8 point star with something inside it, poss open book ?

any ideas? has anyone seen such images in their old family photographs from Inverell ?

Lynette

Hi Lynette,
I have that Mary Ann Owens & Joseph Hutton married in 1881 at Walcha. The NSW BD&M files have Joseph Hutton born 1853 and parents listed as Joseph & Mary
All I have on them otherwise is a possible death for Joseph in 1930 at Tingha (NSW BD&M -18540/1930)  I see that Mary Ann died there 1909.??

I am already a guest on the Campbell Family on ancestry….Deb had added me there, I have had another look and see on Annie Hutton’s profile where your pics and name are added.   If you go onto Stella Rolfe’s picture, (that I added 5/9), you will see my name on it ….just add @bigpond.com     for my email address (a bit shy to place it here in full).. Could you email me as an ordinary mail, then we can catch up/exchange details easily, with attachments.
I replaced Stella’s younger pic, (where she was seated on Joseph Whitby’s knee), which wasn’t very clear, for my copy which was clearer.
On the back of the pic, you have there on the Masonic women – the names Fowler/Whitby are from my lot.
If you follow up on the Whitby line – Ellen Jane May Finn (my Mother) & Stanly Leech (Father) I have my brothers and sisters there as well.     Catch you soon Merren

Hi to Lynette and all the others interested in the Hutton/Rolfe line.

My interest is the Huttons and I've just begun researching the Hutton/Rolfe line.  I've been very interested to read the posts about this family on RootsChat.

Ann Hutton was definitely the daughter of Joseph Hutton and Mary Ann Owens, and she was born in Walcha NSW in 1882.  Ann's death was registered in Queensland in 1955 - she died in the Brisbane General Hospital but is buried in the East Lismore Cemetery, NSW where her husband Joseph George Rolfe is also buried (see references to their deaths on the Ryerson Index).

Ann Hutton's grandparents were Joseph Hutton and Mary (nee Whelan).  Joseph Hutton was a convict from Exeter in Devon - his convict documents are available through Ancestry.

Hi GlenRuth,

my great grandparents; Annie HUTTON & George ROLFE, my grandparents; Stella ROLFE & Patrick SULLIVAN.  I can share my ROLFE_WHITBY research  with you if you like. I don't know much about the HUTTONS, but would like to.  May I ask how you are related to the family?

Hi Lynette

Thanks for your response.  I am descended from Cornelius Hutton and his wife Louisa Dezius.  Cornelius was another son of Joseph Hutton the convict and therefore an uncle to your Annie Hutton who married Joseph George Rolfe (was he known as George??).

We are definitely linked, and I would be greatly interested in anything you can offer on Annie and her family in particular.  I've picked up that there are some photos of Annie held by you and other contributors to this discussion an I would love to see them if at all possible.  Unfortunately I'm not a full member of Ancestry and can only save anything attached to public trees as tiny images (I only get to see a very brief summary of the detail).

Your Annie's parents were Joseph Hutton and Mary Ann Owens -

Joseph's birth was registered at East Maitland (Roman Catholic) in 1853 (son of Joseph and Mary Hutton)
Joseph married Mary Ann Owens at Walcha in 1881
Joseph (son of Joseph and Mary A) died at Tingha in 1930

I haven't been able to identify Mary Ann Owens' birth, or her death.

Joseph and Mary Ann Hutton's children were:

* Annie 1882
* Elizabeth Margaret Ellen 1884
* Joseph 1885
* Mary A  1891
* Edward  1892
* Cornelius  1894
* Mabel Ethel Agnes  1894
 (possibly twins in 1894 - or just two registered at the same time)

Hoping we can help each other with our research.

GlenRuth
