Hello Merrin,
I would dearly love to see your collection of old family photographs! I live in Byron, do you live close by in the Tweed? do you have a tree on ancestry.com? I do, would you like to view the family tree as it looks so far? if so I need your email to give you access. I have mostly been researching mums ancestors, only now have I branched out into my dads ancestry. Stella Rolfe married Patrick Sullivan in Casino 1925,
3 CHILDREN:
1. Desmond SULLIVAN B.Casino 1929 M. Jeanette DURAND 1955 Windsor _BOTH LIVING (my parents)
2. Iris SULLIVAN B. Casino 1928 D. Goondiwindi QLD 1990 M. Stan COOK
3. Kath SULLIVAN B Casino 1926 D. Coffs Harbour 2007 M.Marrickville 1957 Trevor MURPHY
When Aunty Kath died a bundle of old photograph came to me for safe keeping. I would like to find out as much as possible about where they came from, how they lived and loved, and gather all the family images that are scattered everywhere into a collection for all to enjoy and treasure.
The old photographs and a few family stories my dad, his sister Kath and his mum Stella have told me, are the foundation of my research so far, I have a long way to go!
Aunty Kath & Nan are no longer around, they where the keepers of their family history, wish I could talk with them now. The Sullivans still have descendants living in Casino Lismore area, we keep in touch, they have been most helpful and provided more photos and some memories of the Rolfe family, in particular Stan Rolfe, being Stella's brother, he had 'for the time' a high tech dairy farm close by the Sullivans Stratheden property. The Inverelle chapter is a mystery to me, the Rolfe_Hutton_Whitby_Goodfellow connections are calling me!
Do you know anything about the Huttons of Walcha? 1902 Tingha NSW Joseph George Rolfe married Annie Hutton (I have photos of her). My dad has fond memories of Annie, however I know little about where she came from. I believe Mary Ann Owens was her mother & her father Joseph Hutton.
I have a Photo of a group of women 'War Chest Workers' Fern Hill/hall Inverell; it is unusual, the women all have what appears to be an eight point star symbol around their necks , dressed in long what appears to be white dresses, old fashioned hats, two of the woman are in long dark dresses noteable people have been marked with x and names on the back, I believe it is possible at least three generations of the woman in my family may appear in this picture:
Amy Rolfe (my Grandmother Stella's sister)
Mrs Rolfe - Annie( Hutton) - Amys mother, (my great grandmother)
Mrs Whitby, - perhaps this is Ellen (Goodfellow) Moses daughter ?
Hilda Whitby - a Hilda Whitby was born in Inverell 1902 f) John m) Harriet. E. ?
I also have a photo of Annie Hutton dressed in high rank womens regalia, oddfellows/masonic??? apron with tassels, letters PG MU, 8 point star with something inside it, poss open book ?
any ideas? has anyone seen such images in their old family photographs from Inverell ?
Lynette
