Hi Wisby,
My husband is descended from Moses Goodfellow through his daughter Mary (HOEY). I note you say that Noah's death shows his father as Noah. I have been hunting for Noah for years without success! Would you be prepared to share the place and date of death?
Thanks - colleen smith

Hi All,
Am new to rootschat, but have read the information on Moses Goodfellow from Fovant. I am also 'down under' and previously lived at Inverell NSW. Moses died on 15 January,1877 at 68 yrs -Bukkulla NSW  (near Inverell) and his wife Jane died 3/7/1885 - 80 yrs.
My line comes from his daughter - Ellen Goodfellow who was born 5th Feb,1838 - Fovant, Wiltshire, England. (Ellen was 3 months old when the family came to Australia aboard the ship 'Woodbridge' in 1838). Ellen married on 4/12/1855 – Armidale NSW to Joseph WHITBY.
I am interested in anything of the family, I do have a great deal on the Australian lines but some blanks to fill.   Moses is my GGGrandfather.
Megsy (Merren)
P.S. to CarmelMcM -   hello we were in contact some years ago, but we have both moved since...would love to catch up.

Hello to all my relatives out there!
Moses Goodfellow is my 4th great grandfather on my fathers side of the family.  My lineage goes like this ....
Moses & Jane Smiths daughter Ellen Goodfellow b.1838 Fovant, Wiltshire, England married Joseph Whitby from Yorkshire ...
it appears there are variations of the name Jane/Joan, Smith/Clark/e in different records and sources, it is likely they are all one and the same person.  I will call her Jane Goodfellow nee Smith.
Can anyone enlighten me in this regard?

their daughter Elizabeth Whitby b.1856 Armidale married James Rolfe b.1846 Hillgay Norfolk England ....
their son Joseph G Rolfe married Ann Hutton ...
their daughter Stella Rolfe is my grandmother.  I live in Northern NSW Australia, and have been researching my ancestry for about three years.

I have found all the information kindly put out there on rootschat re. Moses and family very useful and interesting.

You may or may not have seen the following information before, if not ...

1845 Inverell
On a visit to the Inverell district during December, the travelling Presbyterian minister Rev Blain performed the first recorded marriage in the district, between John Thom (alias William Goodman) &  Maria Goodfellow 20.12.1845, Maria was Moses's daughter, Moses was a shepherd at Inverell Station around this time.  On the same visit Rev Blain babtised Maria's three year old brother Henry born 18.3.1842, Peter Colin Campbell and Thomas Henry Dasey (both born in 1844).
* source: Rev Blain's Register is kept in the assembly building, York St, Sydney.

The first known white child to be born in the Inverell district (apart from those passing through - source: Muir's diary,  is thought to have been Jane Anderson 2.7.1841.  Henry Goodfelllow was born 1842, this would place the Goodfellows among the first settlers in the Inverell district.

Dingoes were in large numbers, the bush was alive with snakes, shepherding was a big job.

Friday 26 January 1877
SUICIDE BY HANGING.-On Sunday evening,
the 14th instant, a man named Moses Goodfellow committed suicide by hanging himself at Bukkulla. From the evidence given at the inquest (says the Inverell Times), it appeared the unfortunate man, who was verging on 70, had for many years been addicted to habits of intemperance, and on Sunday afternoon, after a fit of drunkenness, obtained £2 from his -wife, saying he was going to " clear out." He was seen almost immediately afterwards by his stepson, Thomas Goodfellow, lying under a tree in front of the house. The boy went away for about an hour, and on returning found his stepfather hanging by a rope from a ratter in the kitchen, but became so paralysed with fright as to be unable to cut the body down ; he reported the matter at Mr. Judge's accommodation house, some quarter of a mile distant, when a young man named Brooks at once galloped to Goodfellows residence, cut down the body, which was quite warm, and every means was then tried to restore animation, but without avail.

* source TROVE_INVERELL, Wednesday, The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) (about) Thursday 18 August 1898_William Goodfellow and Thomas Miller, charged with stealing sheep from the Inverell station run, were to-day committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions on September 5. No bail was applied for.
