Nothing jumping out from the census in 1901 Scotland that seems to fit. I've also looked under Henry (name variant for Harry) and again nothing.  There are not that many family groups in 1901 with those names for father and son. I've also looked at surname variants such as MacKie/MacKay etc... Nor can I see a Harry Snr involved in farming (for 'farmer' read anything involved with land e.g agricultural labourer etc.)

Father Harry LAUDER McK does not seem to have registered his full name for birth/marriage or his death (somebody on his behalf!). There are a couple of possibilites for families with a Harry/Henry born 1895-99 but hard to be definitive because father's occupation seems unrelated to farming.

I'll keep looking...

Hello Monica.
How is the search for Harry Lauder McKay  going have you managed to find anything out

I was wondering if Harry Lauder McKay born 1900 is on any of the merchant seaman registers.
It states on the marriage certificate dated 1938 that he was a retired 1st steward Merchant Navy.
And the  reason why you can't him or his father ...Do you think it's possible that he was not born in Scotland.
Regards Macca

Hi Macca88,

If you go to Ellis Island site and input Harry mcKay as a passenger search born i n1900, you will get a about 20 entries, of a cook or steward returned. On some he is listed as English.

Hi Macca88,

I opened all the records for Harry McKay on the Ellis Island site, and he appeared to be 5'6" about 140lbs approx, but if he sailed from Liverpool he was English, if he sailed from Glasgow he was Scottish. Not sure if that is his declaration, or Ships records input wrong. The first sailings were when he was 17 and these were from Liverpool, maybe a clue to where he was living at the time.

Hi Macca88,

In the 1901 England census, there is a Harry H McKay born 1900 Liverpool, but he is the son of a John McKay (b 1871 Liverpool)  and wife Kathleen (b 1873 Ireland), John the father was a Ships Steward, could be co-incidence but thought I should mention it.

Tom

PS H could be for Hector, as there is a birth for a Harry Hector McKay in 1900 West Derby in Liverpool.
