glasgow street directories early 1900's

Are there street directories for glasgow for 1905-1906

If so, can anyone tellme who is listed at 88 cumberland street. I have found the death of a possible relative at that address in 1906 hoping that there is some connection with owner of house that might connect it. So if I can get occupants for the previous few years it might help

Also are there any street directories for 1900- 1901 if so can someone tell me names addresses and occupations for any O'Briens Listed/

Hi Vito,

Unfortunately, I don't know where you would find directories for 1905-06, but if it helps any, 88 Cumberland Street was occupied by the following in 1913-1914:

• James Briggs, pattern maker
• Thomas Davidson, -
• William Pollock, engineer
• Thomas Welsh, belt-maker
• William Loan, engine-keeper
• Helen Ross, -

The house was owned by 74 Canning Street.

more likely you are looking for the Valuation Rolls for these dates, which list the tenants and their rents. These are held by the Mitchell Library in Glasgow- these dates are not on line though.

hi, the post office directory in mitchell lists from 1901 to 1906 a william morrison 86 88 cumberland street he could be owner of building perhaps someone may look electoral register for you at mitchell i did not have time on my visit the electoral roll is on microfiche i think its electoral wards 18 t0 19 hope this helps  kind regards  harrywrag

here is the problem I have. I have found Francis O'Brien in the 1901 census in a fever hospital in glasgow  therefore I dont know his home address I have found this death cert which other than his name and age and thefact it was glasgow I cant positively tie it to him as there is no wifes name or parents name on daeth cert. I was hoping that the address he died at might have some info that would help connect the dots. I live in ireland so do not have easy access to non web based records any Ideas???

I am embarrassed to say that I never saw your post of 28 Jan 2008 regarding the Brands of Tinwald, to whom I may be related.  Should you visit the kirkyard at some future date, I would be most interested in information regarding Robert Brand (b. 1664; d. 1717), James Brand (b. ca. 1665; d. ?) and William Brand, possibly a son of either of these.  William, no birth date, may be the father of my Robert Brand, b. 1725.  Other possible related siblings or cousins could be James, b. 18 Jan 1716; Jane, b. 8 Oct. 1717; Mary, b. 20 Sep 1719; Thomas, b. 24 May 1722; John, b. 11 Jul 1725 (twin to my Robert??); or Elizabeth, B. 25 Jul 1730.  I still have been unsuccessful in linking from my Ecclefechan Brands to those in Tinwald, and thus to possible related Brands in Dumfries.

Hi,
the problem with PO Directories is that they only really reliably list businesses, and even then, not all. The valuation rolls are a better source of the tenants name. If someone was going to the Mitchell in Glasgow, they might be able to look this up for you. Even then, there could be perhaps 25 families staying at this address.
