James DOWSON b1815 COLCHESTER
« on: Sunday 27 January 08 13:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'd be grateful if anyone could help me trace my ancestor James Dowson b1815 back to Colchester. I am particulary interested in finding his birth/baptism and linking him to other Dowsons that lived in Colchester.

As a bit of background.....He married in Birmingham in Feb 1841 citing his address as Union Passage in Birmingham, which is where he remained until his death in the 1890's. Curiously though,  I cannot find him or his wife Jane on the 1841 census which was taken after he married!! (He is on all the other censuses).

Many thanks
LL

Yes, that's him - thankyou!!!! Never thought to look under Dawson!!!
It's not a million miles away from Union Passage, but I wonder how he came to be there! Wasn't the 1841 census taken in June? In which case he gave his address as Union Passge before that!

Now for his birth....

Just realised I forgot to mention his father (according to his Marriage cert) was James Dowson, Cordwainer (No age!)

If anyone is able to find his birth, I'd be very grateful.
