Caroline Amy Needs/Pegler/? Bristol
« on: Saturday 26 January 08 19:30 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information regarding the first wife, Caroline Amy needs,  of my Grandfather, Edward Gerald Pegler, known as Jack or John.

The couple married in Bristol in 1908, just before the birth of their first son, when Caroline was 16 and my Grandfather was 25

They had a second son some two years later.

After WW1 I believe they were no longer togethe.r  My Grandfather left the Marines, not sure when and eventually arrived in Oxford, by which time he had met my Grandmother, who came from Oldbury, near Birmingham. She lived in London for a time and had my mother there before joining my Grandfather in Oxford in 1923.

They had another daughter in 1925 and didn't marry until 1940.

He takes years off his age on the marriage certificate and she adds them.  There was a 17 year difference and they reduced it to 12.  He was born in 1883 in Warminster, she was born in 1900.

He describes himself as a widower, but I can't find a death registration for Caroline Amy.  I know that she had a second partner, but don't know if they married, don't know his name.

Are there divorce records anywhere that might give a clue, although as he describes himself as a widower did he wait until she died before he married my Grandmother?

Masha :)

That would have been cheaper than a divorce although if Caroline had another partner and actually married him - it has to have been a divorce

Caroline may have changed her name by deed poll in which case her death would be recorded under that name
