Thank you, Darlene. I do appreciate you doing that lookup.

I also had a response from Cass, who provided web sites where I could do deceased searches - and I found both there. I had no idea that deceased searches were now available for Rookwood - over the years I've looked online but decided  it may never happen, so it's great to discover this resource. Now - if they could only get Woronora up . . . that would be wonderful.

Jillian

Hi,
I can see only 2 :
Doreen Smiley Died 1 July 1964
Samuel Smiley Died 9 September 1981
This does not mean they are not buried there, it just means they are not available to me
So sorry....
Cheers
Darlene

Darlene,

Would be most appreciative if you could check your Rookwood information regarding my great-grandparents, as follows:

- James or William James Smiley, d. Aug. 16, 1928 in Lidcombe, bur. in the Presbyterian section of Rookwood on Aug. 17, 1928. James was b. Tipperary, Ireland in about 1828.

- Johanna Smiley (nee Hines, Hynes or Hinds), d. July 30, 1909 in Sydney, bur. in the Roman Catholic section of Rookwood on July 31, 1909. Johanna was b. in 1834 in Limerick, Ireland.

I would like to have any additional information from inscriptions, and precise locations - whatever is available.

Thanks kindly,

Jillian

Cass,

Thanks so much for that very useful information! I had actually visited the Catholic site the previous day, but had failed to notice that a deceased search was available.

I had, over the years, checked periodically for online Rookwood resources, but to no avail. It is wonderful that this resource is available.

BTW, I DID find the information on both my great-grandparents - one on the Catholic site and one on the Independent site (religion separated them in death as it had in life - after 10 children, they parted ways).

Jillian

Jillian

There are only 2 Smiley's

Doreen died 1.7.1984 and Samuel died 9.9.1981 buried in the same plot in the Catholic section

Have you checked the Internet sites. The Catholic  &  Independent( which includes the Presbyterian's) section at Rookwood both have a Deceased Search , both give dates and plot details, the Indepenent have a great map function.

Cass

Darlene, I hope you dont mind me posting replies.

Meegan,

Thanks kindly for the offer to stop in at Woronora - much appreciated.

I've just learned that a cousin in Sydney (I'm in Canada) is willing to go by there, and that apparently it is not that far from where she lives.

However, if that doesn't happen for some reason, I would love to take you up on your offer - which reinforces what I've always believed, that the genie community is one of the very best I know for helping one another.

Thanks again,

Jillian

That's fine, if your cousin doesn't get there quick enough for you just let me know, as i said i go past every couple of weeks on the way to visit my parents.

I like to go and visit my relos there every now and again I have a chat with them.  see if they can give me any hints to find things, I swear one lot of great grandparents have been helping me.  now i need to get another great grandfather to let me know where to look for his birth.

I agree the genies are a very helpful lot.
