It all looks very promising doesn't it.   ;D

As the marriage of William and Harriet is later than the birth of Sarah Ellen (Young) it looks possible that William is not her father.

..in 1891 Harriet is enumerated as born Bilton, Scotland but it looks like Stafford to me

The 1891 original census document does say Stafford Bilton. I am convinced that this is a mistake and that it should have been Bilton in Yorkshire, as indicated in 1901. The enumerator possibly confused it with Bilston.

Apart from the positive evidence (census and birth registration) shown above in the earlier replies to support this, there is also the negative evidence that there was no birth registration for anyone called Harriet Young (or variants of the first name) between 1845 and 1855 anywhere in Staffordshire and certainly not in Wolverhampton which would have covered Bilston.

Found a scrap of paper last night in amongst some family papers saying that Harriet Young was born in Bilton, Aberford in 1851 and that her father was called George.  Harriet died 6.11.1924 in Bradford, she lived with William Burgon in Wilsden and they were married in 1883.

I wonder why the person who wrote all this wasn't more detailed, maybe the info was available.  This means that the census for 1861 & 1851 may not be my family as the dates don't match and there is no mention of George

So, Harriet could be the daughter of George Young, the person shown in 1841 or she could be the illegitimate child of one of the unmarried daughters shown in 1851 or 1861 and the father could still have been called George.

As mentioned in an earlier post, there was only the one Birth Registration for anyone called Harriet Young in Tadcaster during the ten year period from 1845 to 1855 and that was in the third quarter of 1848. This date matches the census information.

I would therefore question the 1851 birth date shown on the scrap of paper but the rest of the information seems to tie in.

So, if Harriet was born in 1851 then she could be on that census with father George - he was listed as 13 in 1841 so I suppose he could have married and had a child in 10 years.

the other family did seem to have a lot of unmarried daughters and I guess it's possible the date of 1851 could be wrong.
