Try looking for the nearest actual road mentioned.
I did this with a difficult-to-find Welsh address.
Worcs / Glos: Neal Neale Jeynes Jeens Geans Harris Roper Ropier Colley Dyer Heeks Bayzand Hampton Bishop Cole Elton Littlehales McGowan

The town will have been split up into church district what does it say top right hand side of census.
that will at least give you the area of the town.
Pit cottage would suggest it was next to a pit!
I had a ggg grandfather living pit houses which turned out to be net to the pit.(not in Llanelli)
Just a suggestion
cheers cardiff ;)

The Census heading looks like it says Llanelly not Llanelli. There is a Llanelly to the northeast in the Brecon Beacons near Abergavenny.

Have you found them in the 1881 Census? if not, I found a James Roach aged 45 and born in Ireland living in a workhouse in Bedwellty not so far away from the Llanelly area. This chap doesn't seem to have any family with him though.

Hi Stewart,

I found a great grandfather living a 'C Pit Cottages', Llanelli.  This turned out to be cottages attached to the former St.David's Pit at Llangennech on the outskirts of Llanelli.  I can't tell from the census extract you've put up if it's the same in your case, but it looks likely.

Llanelli has also been spelt Llanelly at times, so don't let it cause too much confusion.  There is another Lanelli as correctly pointed out, but if you check what county this census entry is listed under it should help establish the correct Llanelly!

Can you (or anyone) give us some more info, I've not got access to the census at the moment.  I managed to find the location of St.Davids Pit after trawing over a few old maps, I'd be glad to share this with you if it the same place.

Regards,
Buckaroo

Thanks Stuart,
This is Definatly the Llanelli(Y) that contains Llangennech.

I have been trying to find the location of Pitt Cottage with no success, It may have even been built over. I am hoping that by finding this it will lead me to a local church/chapel or municipal cemetery where i can locate a grave.

my gt gt grandfather was a labuorer in the colliery sp it could be St Davids Pitt.  There are a lot of minehouses still around that area so i could be in with a chance of finding the actual house. if you can help in any way please do or PM me.
thanks
