Another Stenhouse Conundrum!

I have a relative who was called William Stenhouse who was born in Edinburgh.  According to the IGI, this is William Aitken Stenhouse born 30 March 1814, to John stenhouse and Christina Bain.

They also had 4 other sons:

Ebenezer b 25 Nov 1816
James Ogilvie b 19 Dec 1917
Ebenezer II b 9 May 1820 and
Alexander b 3 Nov 1823.

I've another post where i was tracing Alexander but found on his death cert that his parents were not who they were meant to be.

I am very very confused and would appreciate any help in looking for this family which appear to have been anihilated from history!

There are 3 death records on SP for Alexander Stenhouse of approx birth year 1823

1870 STENHOUSE ALEXANDER     Male 45 died ST GEORGE EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN

1898 STENHOUSE ALEXANDER     Male 73 died DALGETTY /FIFE

 1898 STENHOUSE ALEXANDER     Male 76 died KIRKCALDY AND ABBOTSHALL /FIFE

In the 1841 census at Canongate, Edinburgh

Christian Stenhouse 50 b 1791 Midlothian – Independent
Ebenezer Stenhouse 20 b 1821 Midlothian – Brass Founder
Alexander Stenhouse 20 b 1826 Midlothian – Brass Founder
I suspect John died as she says she is Independent, of course may have separated.

PS Remember in 1841 census the rounded down ages to nearest 5.

This is definately them.  William (the son) had moved to Inverness by then so he is on the census up there.  I guess John (her husband) had died but can't find any record of that.

The puzzle is, what happened to the two Ebenezers, Christina, James and Alexander after 1841? Did they emigrate? Did they all die?

Hi! I believe Alexander Stenhouse is the father of James Stenhouse (born 1854, miner) who married my great great great grandmother Mary Baillie Wilson (born 1853). They came to Australia and had a son (John Wilson Stenhouse) who became the first mayor of Lake Macquarie, NSW, fought in many miners strikes and won a medal from Parliment. Happy to talk further if needed!
