Musters Arms Annesley
« on: Sunday 20 January 08 08:27 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone check 1901 Census for the Musters Arms Annesley please?

As well as finding out landlord & residents, I'm trying to locate where it is or was  ???

I found a photo dated 1905 on 'Picture the Past' ref. NCCW002028
with a note to say it was later known as Fisher's Farm.

http://www.picturethepast.org.uk

Any advice as to how to find details about a property would be appreciated.

Thanks again
Knellie

Hi Knellie,

There is reference to the “Musters Arms” on;  http://www.historicaldirectories.org
1885 – Wrights directory says “Musters Arms” Gaza Rowe, Annesley,
On the Kellys directory of 1904 it was kept by John Trueman Barker and described as Hotel & Farmer.

Hi Knellie,

According to the census it looks like Gaza Rowe kept the Musters Arms in 1881 & 1891
From the Freebmd it seems he died in 1891;

Deaths Jun 1891
ROWE  Gehazi  80  Basford  7b 78

IGI Marriage M046271
18 JUN 1837   Alfreton, Derby
GEHAZI ROWE & ANN BURROWES

They are in Annesley in 1841 as Farmer; in 1851 still in Annesley at the Blue Bell Inn; 1861 Bell Inn,
In 1871 he is only listed as farmer and licensed victualer.

So it looks likely that John Trueman Barker took over after Gehazi Rowe, I hope it narrows your search down a little.

Sheila.

Hello.....might be a little late but just read your message.....have spoken with a friend of mine....looks like on OS plan around 1890s...Musters Arms was indicated in Annesley on opposite side of road to a church...around about OS 500 535.....no sign there now of the building indicated on PTP photograph....

you will notice that this is at end of a public footpath, about a miles walk from Annesley Hall...

....hope that this helps

Hi

The Munsters Arms is listed as The Munsters Arms Hotel in 1901 and there is listed:

The landlord, landlady, mother-in-law, great neice and three servants at the address.  No residents are showing in the 1901 census as staying there at the time the emunerator called.

Reference is indeed RG13/3143/26/44 as pointed out earlier although I read the landlords name as John T Barker.
