Meenagh /IGI
« on: Sunday 20 January 08 02:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
Could someone please tell me what IGI stands for ? Irish Geneaology?
As you can tell I am new at this !
Can anyone give me some info.about either Henry Meenagh or Elizabeth McAleer who married on 14-6-18885 at CoaghRC Church,Tamlaght.Cookstown,Tyrone please ?
If it is my great grandmother she would have been about 31 at the time.
Thanks,
mmclm

IGI is International Genealogical Index part of LDS library at www.familysearch.org (one of the first places you should check when researching a family although the Irish records there are not complete).
What is it you are hoping to find about Henry Meenagh and Elizabeth McAleer?
If they were born before 1864 there will be no birth certificate so you need to look for church baptismal records for names of parents, date of birth, address.
The actual civil marriage certificate will list their names, age (usually 'full age' put down unless under age in which case an age might be given), residence at time of marriage (not nec. where they were born or where their parents were living), occupations, fathers' names and occupations, names of two (usually) witnesses- also date and place of marriage and officiant. (Mothers' names, birthplace & date are not on marriage certificates).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you for your help re.I.G.I.
I believe that Henry Meenagh and Elizabeth McAleer could be my great grandparents. MaryDerry gave me this info. but she has nothing further.
Would you happen to know where the parish records for the Sacred Heart Church,Castle St.,Omagh would be held please?
My sister visited Omagh a few years ago and was told at the local Library that they were no longer held at the church.
Eliza Mc Aleer was born in 1854 so there would be no birth cert. for her.
Any info. on Meenaghs who lived in Castle Lane,Omagh could give me other leads.
