Can anyone identify the Scottish Regiment please?

Hi All,

Please do not be offended by my comments but something just does not ring true about this photo.

This order of dress was not worn in 1941 (unless in the band or pipe band)

Where are his collar badges?

Where is his buff facings?

He is wearing a full plaid?

Yes, the lack of buff facings have puzzled me too on this photo.  By his dress, he could neither be a piper nor drummer, so I thought perhaps a bandsman because as mentioned this was not the standard uniform for the period.

Your comments are really interesting! I know the date of the photo and that it was taken in Edinburgh by the stamps on the back. Otherwise, I know nothing about it, except that it belonged to my late dad, and  remember him saying it was either a friend or distant relation of his. But that was when I was a child and not really interested   Unfortunately there is no-one left now to ask.
