Hi Dave,
Is there any chance you've seen the name McNay on your travels round Cathcart? I have two......Jessie McLennan and Jane Shankland both married McNay men.
I have Title Deeds to the Cemetery, for both ladies, but they only quote Lair numbers, no section mentioned.
I know its a long shot but worth asking. If you have nothing, any ideas of how I could find the sections the lairs are in?
Thanks.

Hi Morag,
It's not a name that springs to mind, certainly not one that I have written down of the legible stones in the Cathcart Old Parish cemetery.
I haven't got McLennan / Shankland in the Old Parish either.

Are you aware of which cemetery it is - Old or new?  Date would be a clue and I believe dates have been discussed earlier in the thread.

You could try contacting the following to ascertain whether they have records.

Thanks. I will give them a call on Monday and try to get more information. What I have is rather patchy so they might help fill out the bones, so to speak. ;D

Good luck.
Really hope they can help out.  My concern would be how much they might charge for a search but I reckon because you've got the deeds, that'll be a great starting point for them.

Let us know result please.

D

PS - what date are you talking about because I think that would help narrow down which sections are unlikely.

PPS - I'm such a numpty at times, should have thought of this before.  In future, when I visit Cathcart (new), I'll print of the map and try and date the individual sections.

Morning Dave,
Called Glasgow who told me Cathcart came under East Renfrewshire. Very nice lady gave me answers to my questons.
Jessie McNay nee McLennan might have a gravestone in Section 2B (Linn Section) lair #230.
Janet Mcnay nee Shankland might have a gravestone in Section 2A (Linn Section) Lair #616

If you are in that area sometime, could you have a look please. Much appreciated.

Hi,

This looks a great Cathcart resource!!
I'm looking for the grave of William Love 1680 - 1737, Minister of Cathcart 1710 - 1737.

As I remember from seeing a reference to it ages ago, the grave is in a row with other Cathcart ministers, fairly near to the church itself, Cathcart Old Cemetery.  There were also children from his marriage to Mary Lees.

Has anyone seen my Love?

Hi Dave

I've received a very helpful reply from the archaeologists who were surveying the monuments in Cathcart Old Churchyard earlier this year.

One of my family monuments - the stone on the left in the illustration - does still exist and is in good condition. The Project Director kindly sent me a full transcription of the inscription plus two photos of the monument.

Thanks again for the lead.

Best wishes

Hi Dave,

I have recently had my great grandparents confirmed buried in the Linn section of Cathcart cemetery. I am writing from New Zealand and wondered if your offer to try and find particular graves made earlier in your posting is still an option.

My grandparents were George Knowles Mitchell & Euphemia Strang Mitchell and were buried in 1936 & 1920 respectively.

If there was a headstone I would be most grateful to have a photo of it. The location of the lair is section 2A lair no 1800.

If you are still able help out I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks.
