Had a look around 2B this evening for Millicent Sloan - No stone I'm afraid but got pics anyway, will email you them to pass on.

I vaguely remember my father taking me to the cemetery to visit the grave when I was about 2 or 3 as we lived in Simshill at the time. I've written to Rhuallan House so hopefully they will be able to provide the lair reference.

Back on the trail of my Edgars. Can anyone tell me in what years the Old Cathcart Cemetery was used?  Looking for Jane Edgar nee Smith died between 1851 and 1855 and James Edgar (her husband) died 1874 in Cathcart. I very much doubt if they had a headstone but who and where would details of the burial be, East Renfrewshire Council or elsewhere?  Have a trip coming up in May and if I know where to look might have a go at it.  Thanks

My gt grand aunt Catherine McFarlane Shanks b4 May 1876 was living at Kilmailing Terrace, Cathcart at the time of the 1881 census - and that is the last that we can find of her anywhere.

I would be interested to know whether she is residing in Cathcart cemetery, so if anyone finds her there I would be very grateful to hear from them.

There may have been a Kilmailing Terrace in 1881 but there isn't one now.  There is a Kilmailing Road.  It is just feasible that part of what is now called Kilmailing Rd, was the \terrace.
I pass it regularly.
At the very top of Kilmailing Rd is the remains of Cathcart Old Parish Church and the graveyard.  Not easily accessible as I think I've possibly mentioned earlier in this thread.
Bonus is, it is not a huge graveyard.  I've been round every gravestone in it in the course of an afternoon.
Something has come up today that might prevent me going searching for you but equally, depending on how things turn out, I might just feel like going tomorrow.

No promises at this stage.

Others reading this thread might be interested to know that I spent several hours in Cathcart cemetery (the big one!) on Friday looking for a particular grave - I found it!
Couldn't believe it as the section the family is buried in is probably the most overgrown in the entire cemetery.....brambles, ivy, moss, wet leaves and ice...none of it defeated me.  LOL

     I was wondering the next time you are at the Cathcart Cemetery you could keep your eyes open for any Urie's or Main's buried there?

I'm pretty sure last time I was in Cathcart I saw some Urie graves - my pal is called Urie so it jumped out at me.  I was searching around section F.
That was in the Cathcart Cemetery which, as has been said before, is massive.
Unless you are very lucky, finding a grave by chance is slim, really need Section and lair details.

Old Cathcart is much smaller and searchable in an hour or so.  Pity it's under 6 inches of snow just now.

I'm looking after my mother just now and I can't get out much, even if the snow melts.

I've got a list - Main / Urie added but if you can find lair details - all the better.
