Does anyone know where I can find a list of breweries in west bergholt and a list of who worked there. ??? Around the early 1900's. It's a tall order I know so fingers crossed someone knows something.

Hi there,

West Bergholt Brewery started in the latter half of the 19C, extended in 1889 and was taken over in 1958 by Truman, Hanbury and Buxton. It s now a private residence.

This is the only one I could find. Not sure about employment records. Depending on how early in the 1900s you mean, you could try going through the 1901 census of West Bergholt and see who is listed as a brewer or brewer s assistant etc etc. I don t know if you are searching for a specific name.  It doesn t guarantee of course that they worked at this particular brewery but it s a start.

Regards

Nimrod

Hi Nimrod

Thank you for that information.

I have a family photo of 5 brothers ( only one brother named for certain) and from this photo a story has come about

1 3 brothers were in the Indian Army 1 was fluent in Urdu.

2 1 had a wife Emily - I have wives for each except 2 that died in ww1.

3 1 was a brewer in West Bergholt. Hence I can only look for a Surname.

4 I guess date wise it would have to be c 1900 - 1920.

Who would have thought a photo of 5 brothers and no names could throw up so mant questions.

I hope to meet the son of 1 of the brothers in few days so maybe he can help me with some names & the brewer.

Thanks again Coppernob

Hi Coppernob.

There is a good possibility that it would be either Truman or Daniel. If you go to this link there is info on both surnames.

  Hope will help.
