Emigrants to Australia 1912
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 06:47 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know what documentation had to be provided prior to migration to Australia from London.

William and Ethel KEABLE sailed to Australia 1912 on "Zealandic" from London to Sydney.

2 children sailed with them shown as Dorothy May KEABLE aged 4
                                                            William KEABLE Jnr    aged 15.

I cannot find a birth record for either after searching myself and also enlisting the services of a paid researcher. Any advice appreciated.                Carley

Thank you all for your replies.  I have the other info but cannot find the births for William Jnr or Dorothy.

I wondered whether a birth certificate had to be supplied in UK with their application to migrate.  William Jnr was born in 1896 in Lambeth (2 years before parents marriage). Dorothy was born in 1908 supposedly in Croydon.

I was thinking that if birth certificate copies were furnished with travel application, then it might be an idea to check in that area. Does anybody know? Wish Census 1911 was out!!                                                Carley

Great question Carley.   ;)

I would also like to know if you had to complete a questionnaire which was then "approved" (or rejected) and what information did it contain.  Or did British migrants simply buy a ticket and arrive and take up residency.  My G Grandmother also came to Melbourne in 1912 with two teenage boys, my Grandfather and Granduncle.

William Jnr was born in 1896 in Lambeth (2 years before parents marriage).

If William was born before the parents were married he would probably have been registered under his mother's maiden name.
