Shaw Family
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 01:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I am hoping to find some info on my G Grandmother "Mary Shaw"

Details are as follows:

Parents: Matthew Shaw (Born c1855) and Mary Catherine Coyle (born c1853-1888)

1888/C004496 - reg # for Death of Catherine Coyle in 1888 - parents thomas coyle and ann connell.

The family emigrated to Maryborough, QLD - aust.
Ship: 1887 - Almora
Matthew Shaw - 31
Matthew Shaw - 8
Anne Shaw - 7
Bridget Shaw - 2
Catherine Shaw - 33
Mary Shaw - 5 married Martin Edward Shanahan 12 Dec 1912.

There is also a sibling who remained behind - Patrick Shaw born c1876 and apparently he was in Jersey....

Basically I am trying to find out as much information as I can and I really need assistance as Im not sure how to go about it - irish records are alot harder to come by...

Im not sure where abouts in ireland they came from - I am waiting for Mary shaw's marriage certificate.
But I have been told by family that she was born in Co Meath. My Great Grandmother was also obsessed with Co. Mayo (Maybe something in this - she even have a plaque "Mayo" on the front of her house.)

Any ideas?????

Cheers,

Daria

Looks like the family were in County Meath for a while at least according to births on IGI.
Matthew Shaw.
1. Matthew born 27 Sept.1879 Co.Meath (mother- Catherine Coyle)
2. Anne born 17 Jan.1881 Tully, Meath (mother- Kate Coyle).

Index to Irish civil registrations is online (free)- search for bride and groom separately then cross-reference results for matching details need to order the marriage certificate.

Did you try searching civil registration index?
Searching for 'matthew shaw' in Co. Meath brings up only 4 results one of which is the marriage- Mathew SHAW Oct./Dec.1878 Oldcastle district volume 3 page 287. Searching for 'Catherine Coyle' marriage 1870-1879 Meath brings up the same index details so that's the marriage and with those details you can order thier marriage certificate.
