New York death - BARDSLEY 1916
« on: Monday 14 January 08 15:21 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find out where my relative John Bardsley might be buried.  He was from England but was in New York singing with the Century Opera Company when he caught pneumonia and died on 6 April 1916.

His obituary notice said: "Fureral service from the chapel at 2478 Broadway on Friday 8 April"  Not much to go on; I don't know where to start finding out where he might be buried.  Can anyone help please?

Do you know his religion? That would narrow the choices.

The death certificate should say where he was buried. The certificate number is 10977 in Manhattan. Here is a link for a form to order the certficiate:

Kath is right - my proposed route is way too circuitous!

Wonderful, thank you so much.  Its interesting that the US puts place of burial on the death certif - it's a pity the UK doesn't too, it would save a lot of hunting.

Excuse my ignorance but how do I go about getting $10 to them and what do I do about the stamp re the stamp addressed envelope? - can I just send them $11 (or $12?)??

That's a good question, and I am not sure. I think you might need to go to the bank and get a check in American dollars. Or can you send a credit card? Probably not. and I think the post office can help with the stamp.

Ian, do you know?

I don't know about overseas ordering, but maybe you could send an email?

I feel like the topic has been discussed somewhere on Rootchat - might be worth a search...
