Does anyone remember the wrought iron gates that said White Heather Camp at the top of the hill. I'm sure there were gates as well that disappeared.

Margaret, i think you were right about the shape and design of them. My uncle and his wife lived in one around late1950's Early 60's. My mother lives across the road from where they were, that been from half way down Sheepfoot lane to the corner of Middleton road. There still is a sort of school in Heaton park  on Sheepfoot lane side again. I think they use it for a day nursery? I believe there were also some prefabs along Princess parkway around the same time frame and know we had a relation who lived in one, but i am not 100% where they were i just know they could have been around Mauldeth road?
Migky ;)

Oh! forgot , there use to be a cycle speed way there too, but i am not to sure if it is used any more? In Heaton park that is ;D
I remember the cycle speedway track, in the 70`s a bunch of us use to use it often.

Wow! I am flatterred that anyone remembers me. Yes that was I and perhaps we could begin another thread for this topic. The Heaton Park prefabs must have gone sometime in the late sixties but I think most of the people I knew had moved before the prefabs went. As Maureen has already posted there is very little archive material about them but the Prestwich and Whitefield Guide has some photographs and there is a local historian called
(*) who would be a good source of information.

Hi,
I lived at 80 Broadmere drive from 1947 until 1952. from being 2  until 7 years old.
Our house was adjacent to the park, therefore I considered the whole of the
park to be my garden.

We had a " nissen hut " type garden shed.

My parents name was Woodier and we lived next to mrs Swift who had 2 sons.
The house opposite, probably 79 or 81, had a little girl who suffered from
scarlet fever.

I attended St. Hilda's School in Prestwich and I am told that I decided to walk home alone at the age of four. The road was obviously not so busy in those days.

The only other thing of note that I can remember  was that a large green lorry with
the logo " Digger Tobacco " was frequently parked nearby. I recall no cars.

Ref 'Maureen 720 '15 May 2011.  I remember Doctor MacCallum and I thought it was strange that he lived in a house with 2 floors. I believe he had a son named Sandy.
