LOL. I thought the prefabs were demolished 1963-65 ish. I didn't live there but lived in the Heaton park area and played on the site as an early teenager as it was being pulled down. Our bonfires on the 'Big Back' (Behind Nelly and Hermans off licence , where Walter Hale's coal yard used to be)were fuelled by the woodwork and furniture left behind as people moved out. Some of the prefab kids attended St.Hilda's school on Whitaker lane. I remember going to a birthday party in the prefabs when I was about 8 or 9. It was for either a brother or sister called Hulse who were schoolfriends at the time
Does anyone remember when the Water main in the park facing the Off licence burst. It took down the park wall from the Ostrich pub to the Railway cutting and flooded the houses facing on Bury old Road and the Ogden street/Park street area. I think that happened about 1960 but am not sure. It was a major event for a young kid at the time though.
