Barbara you are an angel. I've just spent an hour looking at the archives why the heck I didn't think about using my library card before I don't know. I can see that there's plenty to research and names and dates galore.

It's very interesting how the charity expanded from St Anne's to Manchester and  into Wales. I am particularly interested with  the link to Henshaw's School for the Blind I wonder how many charities actually used it?

Woo hoo I know what I'm going to be doing over the weekend.

Margaret

If you have an interest in Henshaws, this is a must.

I know this pre-dates the White Heather Society, but I have a small pdf document dated 1895 entitled "Fifty-Sixth report of Henshaws blind asylum"

It is a stunning and fantastic read and names everybody and everything to do with Henshaws even down to how much they spent on matches in that year, just wish I could get hold of more.

If you would like a copy just let me know your email addy via PM

Keep the info flowing Barbara I don't have a library card  ;D

I'm assuming you mean a library card!  ;D ;D ;D ;D but you're very kind, thank you both for the nice words.
I Dare Not go back into the archive today, spent too long on it already, so enjoy yourselves

And lovely photos from GeorgeK - I had a hat just like your sisters when I was that age!

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the link to pics of the bandstand.

Follow this link http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/news/1607233.stolen_park_statue_on_tv/
for news on the running man which had a surprise appearance on the Antique roadshow !

I do not remember the swimming pool neither does my sister who is 57 now, but many years ago i stumbled across some tiles at the edge of the pool i think ! today i went there but could not find anything, was`nt sure i was in the right place. Found a map now so will have another look next week.

I have attached some pics of my family when we lived at no.12 Buttermere Drive before leaving in 1961.

I'm the little baby in my Italian Grandmothers arms (awwwww!) the one and only time I met her before she sadly died in 1968.

Hi, I am Elaine Pilkington was Davies, I lived in Thornhurst Avenue which was the Middleton Road end, I left in 1960 moved to Bantry Drive and lived next door to GeorgeK!!!!!! I remember your mum, dad, Olga i used to play with, I am 58 years old now, do you remember me?

Yes Gina and your right always at the sewing machine !. She is here with me right now and remembers the Kirks, slowly coming back to her !
I think we left 1967/1968, moved into 47 crab lane next to the school, my parents split up, so for the next 14 years we lived between mums  house in cheetham hill and crab lane.
After my father died Peter bought the house and lived there until about 2005.
