On the 1851 Braddon it gives her mother  Mary Ann Wood as the unmarried daughter of  J ames and Elizabeth Wood.

Mary Ann is 28 and Angelina 9 so she was very young when she was born.

I cannot see her birth record in 1842 in complete index's.

Quote
Mary Anne did marry John Maycock but not until 1842

I suspect this is an error

Marriage took place in Sept. q 1853 Towcester, 3b - 39

that was my mistake. I knew that

I think I've figured it out.  Looking on Mary's website for John Maycock, he was married at the time.  He got Married in 1836.  Mary has got him down as being married twice before he married Mary Anne Wood.

On the 1861 & 1871 Census, John Maycock is down as being born in around 1815/1816 which would make him around 27 when Angelina was born.

Also on Mary's website she has a death record for Angelina which would match up with her being born in 1842.

I heard back from Mary Taylor this morning.

This is her reply

Angelina appears to have been born when her mother, Mary Ann, was just 18,
and a single parent, and brought up alongside her aunts and uncles in her
grandparents house.

It would be very unusual in these circumstances for there to be anything
in writing anywhere about her father. If Mary Ann's parents had disowned
her, and she had had Angelina in the Workhouse, there may have been
affiliation proceedings, as the Workhouse tried to recover some of the
costs of looking after mother and baby, but apart from that there is
rarely any paperwork.  She clearly didn't have the baby in the Workhouse,
as there is no birth certificate.

It is also unlikely that Mary Ann's later partner, John Maycock, is the
father of the baby. The father will have been either unable to marry Mary
Ann at the time of Angelina's birth, or no-one knew who he was but Mary
Ann, and she wasn't telling! Either way, it is very unlikely that she
later married the father - he would have been associated with a very
unhappy time of her life

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Thanks for all your help
