Too many Bells everywhere!  Thank you so much for looking.  I don't have a Jane Bell (so far) and I don't know that any of my Johns were grocers.   Would it be too much trouble to look for Green Field in Eccelfechan in the 1920's?
Which library do you use? I hope I'll get up to Dumfriesshire for a holiday sometime, so will be able to do some research myself.  Also have a whole host of newly discovered Bell relations to look up.

According to the Valuation rolls Greenfield House in the parish of Kirkpatrick Fleming was tenanted until 1922 by Elizabeth Davidson described as a widow.  The subsequent years of the 1920s showed the tenant to be George Davidson (probably a relative of the aforesaid widow).  The office and other property described as part of Greenfield was tenanted throughout the period by the gamekeeper, James Noon.

I hope that this is the information that you require.

Thanks.  I don't recognise Davidson as being a name connected with my Bells. I will file that info in case it comes in useful!

Betty has looked up the valuation rolls for Greenfield in Ecclefechan for me and come up with Jemima Watson living there in 1920.    I have 2 Jemima Watsons on my tree. One born in 1840, sister to Fanny on my avatar, and her niece, who was born in 1877. The photo was taken about 1928. so if this is one of these two, the first would have been about 88 and the other about 51.  What do you think?

  I posted her on the photos page as well, and that has be the concensus so far. 
I'm doing quite well with my whole photo album full of people I didn't know thanks to the help of everyone on Rootschat
