Catholic Stewarts in Tyrone
« on: Saturday 12 January 08 12:10 GMT (UK) »
MIA, Alexander Stewart born c1818 in Tyrone, married in Scotland 1844 to Elizabeth Feeney of Roscommon.  Both Catholics, Alexander and his four youngest children went AWOL after the death of Elizabeth Feeney in 1869, can't find them in the 1871 Scottish census so perhaps they returned to Ireland.

The four kids were back in Scotland by 1875 as one of them Annie Stewart 1852 was married and stated her father Alexander Stewart as deceased.  Other children include John 1845, Alexander 1846, Maryann 1849, Daniel 1854, Elizabeth 1857 and Margaret Jane 1860.  If anyone has Stewart lines with these given names please drop me a line.  Thanks and happy new year.  Valster

Hello Valster,

Four items are required when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. County.
2. Denomination.
3. Parish.
4. Townland.

You still require the Parish and Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as your ancestors were born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. The marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards.
