The GR website now quotes the normal membership fee as $19.95 for 6 months.

I think that existing members may be able to continue at the old rate, if they renew early enough, but have to pay the new rate if they let there membership lapse, like I did :)

I paid $19.95 for 12 months in Aug 2006, and I think I was offered the same in Aug 2007, but as I didn't renew on time, I was offered the new rate at a 100% increase.

Don't start me off on the subject of Genes Reunited and thir subscription rates!  >:(

I let my subscription expire when they tried charging me £9.95 for six months when I knew that they gave some members 12 months for the same cost.

After a few weeks, they sent me an email offering me six months for £7.50 if I would come back.  I did, but it still rankles that they have a two-tier system of membership.

I have a full Explorer subscription to Find My Past and it's a much better search engine than Ancestry.  It's a pain that they don't have the 1851 or 1901 census returns yet, and I'm pleased that they will be finally getting the 'full set'.

I just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth :). I haven't tried the other sites mentioned yet, but I have found Genes Reunited simple to use in terms of searching other's family trees etc. Last Sunday I started researching my husband's family tree, knowing only his father and grandfather's names and dates of death and nothing else. Within 4 hours I had his great grandmother's family line back to 1400's France, and within 3 days had his great grandfather's line back to 1640. A large part of this was helped by what I found on GR, and the help of the people I contacted that way. Yes, I had to subscribe to contact them. But, to me, it was worth it, as I got a lot of data that has set me off in the right direction and given me a big boost in this whole genes researching.

Of course, most of you are far, far more experienced than I, and would know better what works, and many of you I'm sure have helped others through this forum etc. However, I thought it only fair to have at least one favorable comment for Genes Reunited, as I have found them very useful. :)

Regards
Cynthia
