can anyone tell me what this badge is ?

  Trying to establish what this badge was for we have found it in a relatives possetion  hope i can describe it correctly here goes ....

a silver triangle shape with a crown in the middle , under the crown is the date 1916 , in the triangle edges are ON WAR SERVICE , at either side of the triangle are 2 circles in white enamel with the letters N P , then at the bottom of the triangle is like the bottom of a heart shape with a letter F in the enamel with 1699 underneath
 The badge does appear to be 2 peices as the triangle is placed on another underneath "bit"which then has a T and S at either side of the crown ...oh dear i do hope i have done justice to the description  any suggestions would be most appreciated .

The on war service badges were given to recruits who had "signed up" but had not been issued a uniform yet. This was so the mad harrigans wouldn't chase them and hand out white feathers...

The rest of the badge sounds intriguing...any chance of a photo???

I wonder if it could be one of the On War Service (OWS) Women's badges issued in that year. One of the badges, or rather brooches because of the absence of buttonholes for females, was triangular in design and issued in 1916.    They were issued to females and others in occupations at Munition Factories etc in an effort to show they were doing their bit for the war effort.  I wonder if the separate bit at the bottom you refer to was for the pin catch attachment for the female wearer?

              thank you for your help , i think you could have a point tickerwheel about it   been for females as we don't know any males that it could have belonged to and on looking at it more closley there are two sort of fastenings at the back , and thinking about it i have seen a similR sort of fasrening on the back of an old brooch , time to do a bit more digging as to who in the family it belonged to
