Am I reading those dates correctly?  Are you saying Martin Neary was 14 when he married? or are you meaning Martin born 1840 married Catherine born 1854 on a date you haven't given?

Per the 1870 Seneca County NY census:
Martin was 32, Catherine was 38. This means he was born about 1838. In 1883, he was 43.
The church record of their marriage in IRL indicated about 1854. They emigrated to USA about 1859 per 1900 census.

Re: Neary Children growing up...
The Mary Neary in my line; daughter of Martin and Catherine (O'Malley) Neary was born in 1864 in Geneva, NY and she married Joseph Henry Campbell about 1888 per 1900 census. She indicated they had been married 12 years which would have been 1878. Kids were 8 and under in 1900. In 1910, she indicated they had been married 21 years. Oldest child, Alice, was 18.

What is interesting is how many of the names repeated in the Neary Children growing up:
Mary Alice, John H., Michael, Catherine, Martin J, Dominick, Thomas

By my reckoning, they married therefore in 1888.
